European Tour

Purely down to lack of sponsor to stump up the sizeable amount required to host an event.

Is it not 2 anyway......

Certainly not poor crowds - any ET event would get decent attendance in GB

As for the Weather - well, it's no worse here in Summer than it is in America these days.
Didn't virtually all PGA events have a rain delay last season?

The BMW PGA at Wentworth is the only permanent English fixture as The Open returns to St Andrews next year and Troon the year after,

Real shame as you look at some of the Tour events on the telly and the crowds are tiny, No problems getting crowds here.

Love to see more events here

The Senior Masters at Woburn last year had more people going through the gates to watch than 75% of the main ET events

It's not a crowd issue it's the ET demanding millions to allow countries to host events but it's going to start to become unsustainable soon for events

I was thinking the same thing. At least the one we do still have is big one!

I used to attend most of them, my favourite was the British Masters at Woburn. It is a real shame because the crowds would be very good compared to the couple of hundred you sometimes see hobbling around in Europe.

Don't forget the UK tax arrangements for overseas sports stars.

This is THE reason!

Until some arrangement is made with HMRC, there is no way the situation will change.

And just to clarify...It's not the tax on Prize Money that's the issue. It's the approach by HMRC that they are entitled to the proportion of every other part of the competitor's income (sponsorship and endorsements) that are the cause!

Yup, good concise article about Phil's tax last year - http://www.forbes.com/sites/kurtbad...historic-british-open-and-incurs-61-tax-rate/

and before anyone says it, yes they're still earning more than we ever will, but if he could win two events and be taxed half of that (or less in some countries) then it can't be that appealing for a lot of the bigger names to come over, especially as they have all their endorsements taxed too.
