So the season is underway in 2017 starting with BMW South African Open

Great start from Rory with his new bag - 5 under par 67

Also good to see Simon Dyson get a good round under his belt

Can see McIlroy having another great season this year

Some of the TV commentators make me laugh, they go on about the players being in the rough and yet I can see 2/3rds of the ball and they're playing 3w's and 4 irons out of it, it's hardly what we play out of just off our fairways every week, in fact I can't see any real rough on this course in South Africa, it's wide open other than a scattering of trees here and there. Then they go on about a tough shot with the ball being marginally above their feet, they really need to get out more and see some of the positions we all get into weekly, sometimes I think I'm playing Twister out there

I know what you mean Fish. Went to the Irish open 2 years ago and was blowing a gale, winner on -2 and only 5 players under par. Just shows you how different it can be and how you can't compare to playing in South Africa on a perfectly manicured course in perfect weather.

Not to say id shoot -5 in SA

They did say in commentary that the rough has been cut back.

Rory said yesterday that because its high altitude the ball is flying further that normal. Cant remember if it was 10% or 10 yards. Still a big hit though!

Decent -2 round from Sir Nick. Would love to see him do it tomorrow and make the weekend. Great opener from McIlroy too. The new gear seems to have bedded in

Great going from Sir Nick. They actually showed a lot of coverage of his round yesterday, and he was straight as an arrow off every tee, and great irons into the green. I'd love for him to make the cut. Like Monty at the open last year

His interview after was a joy to hear, such passion for his junior series. He went up a lot in my estimation after hearing it, he was genuinely excited

I'm sure I write this every year during the SA swing.....

JB Kreuger - how the hell does he get it round (so well) driving like that!?!?

Good to see Peter Uihlien playing well again. Didn't have the best of years last year with a wrist injury but seem to be over it now, 2 off the lead.

Also good to see Jordan Smith has carried his good play over from the challenge tour.

Enjoyed watchingg falcon this morning. Sadly looks like he'll miss out by one, but for a part time oldie he did pretty well.

Now going that Rory stays in contention, as there must be a chance he'll phone it in this weekend if he's too far back.

Brilliant result from Storm, especially when you consider he only got his card because they gave Reid the exemption and he didn't have to go to Q School.
