Saw the advert for this in last months mag. Looks like they play comps on some fine courses. Just wondering if anyone had attended one and if so what was the set up like?

The events are indeed on some fine courses all top 100 uk, quite an expensive day out but a chance to play competetive golf on quality courses is quite scarce these days, events are now i believe qualifiers too.
Played at Birkdale last year well organised day had a graet fun a decent friendly bunch, off to Ganton next wednesday if you can afford it go for it and Enjoy!

Just having a look at some of the EAGT events for this year and a few look quite appealing, namely:

West Hill & Worplesdon both about £168 in June - 2 rounds on each
New Zealand Course in surrey - 2 rounds £200
Saunton, Devon - 2 rounds + Dinner + B&B (i think) - £200

Anybody played in them and does anyone know what prizes are like etc if you happen to play alright?

This is the former Nike Tour. I have played a number of these and in my opinion, they are well organised with good prizes and at fair prices considering the premium venues. All the events (in the UK at least) are CONGU qualifiers, and I did not have the impression that there were dodgy handicaps in abundance.

They have a number of overseas events (UAE, Portugal, US) and this year will have a Loch Lomond event around the time of the Scottish Open. They also play some places that are not otherwise easy to get on, such as Swinley Forest.

There are a lot of regular players, some who play so many of these events that presumably they don't get paid the end of the month or have restrictions on their golfing time!

If you fancy a venue and can afford it, well worth it.

The tour started out as the "Fore Tour" back in the 1980's and has evolved since that time.

I have not played on it myself for many years, but I know that David Hughes, who runs the tour has a vast experience within the golf industry and I believe worked on the ladies European Tour.

All those I know who have played on the tour have always enjoyed the day. I remember playing both Wentworth and Swinley forest which were very special days.

i have played a couple of times, well worth the expirience of playing on some courses you dont often get chance to play qualifiers on.
I didnt find any dodgy handicaps evryone was friendly and a good day had by all. There are some tour regulars who are obviously in an enviable position to have time and money to play all events. Pick which ones you fancy and enjoy.

Cheers fellas. All looks pretty good so far - anyone fancy any of the days?

Doon, re the handicap thing, most of the events I've looked at have been won by guys in single figures, obviously with the odd exception. Somewhat less concerned about severe banditry on this tour compared to others.

i did have my eye on sunningdale day this year but having been lucky enough to get an old course slot it'll most probably have to wait.

Myself and PNWokingham played one at Sunningdale last year. I agree it was well organised, and the cost was only what it would cost to play both courses any other time.

As for the prizes? Can't help you

If you do well enough to qualify for the final, you have to play (or have played) a certain number of events throughout the year (and possibly be a paid up member of the tour?) to be able to take your place.

One of the overseas events last year was Bandon Dunes which looks a fantastic group of courses. Others on the wish list are Pebble and Sawgrass.

I'd do some scouting before forking out for this tour mate. It's a huge whack of cash because there is no subsidy from the hosting club.

Look to see if the club or the county union hold an event there first - they will be heavily subsidised

For example: St Georges Hill was circa £180 with EAGT. The Silver Trophy (over 25s) was £80 including lunch & dinner!!!!

Obviously, this doesn't apply to all the courses available.

At lot of the really good value opens are for cat 1 golfers, max handicap for the silver trophy is 5 so most of us wouldn't ever get close to a great deal like that. Sunningdale have an open for less than 2 and that's a bargain.

Are any of these events cheaper than what you would pay if you tipped up paying a full green fee, looks really expensive to me.

Jimbob, if you fancy saunton then why not enter their own opens at Easter and August. 50 quid for 2 rounds, one on each course. I play both of them every year.
