How many of us have had a lesson, or tip from a friend/pro/playing partner, that made a big impact on your golf?

If so, how long did it last?

I've mentioned before i was off 18ish and had a 30 minute session with a local pro.

Ive come down to 10.2 in a year and am regularly scoring under 10 over at my track, and am hoping to get another cut tonight.....

I am on here thanking Bob for his putting advice.

This has allowed me to enjoy an area of golf that has held fear for me for most of my golfing days.

My putter scored as many strokes as all the others I played some days, 82 with 42 putts - and on others my putting would be better at 40 putts!!

I have now taken circa 10 putts per round off my scoring but the BIG feeling is standing over a long putt, hitting it three feet past and knowing I will knock in the return.

My fear has been replaced by confidence when taking the putter out of my bag, does that count as Eureka?

I had one last night at the range although not as a result of outside influences, I actually suspect that what I’ve discovered is wrong but it works so I dont care.
Since starting the game 8 months ago I’ve had a serious slice with anything longer than a 5 iron. Having tried various things from strengthening my grip to trying to think about an in-to-out swing path I was getting no where. 150 balls and a lot of experimentation later I think I’ve cracked it, a significant set-up change. 4” further from the ball and more knee flex – straight ball flight and what in the gloom looked like an increase in length as well. Eureka!!!! And one very happy golfer.

Ditto that. I have lent the book to Hywel. It will be interesting to see what he makes of it.

He might make it into some paper planes :D

Can he actually read? He IS Welsh you know! ;)

Dont worry im following the pictures!

Nearly finished reading it. Off to the range again tonight to try and work on a few things. Dont think ill be going full stack and tilt but there are certain things im defo changing in my swing.

And Region3, what was this secret you were told? Is it the secret behind your awesome play last wekend?

My pro dramatically improved my approach putting by having me make 2 practice putts while looking at the hole and then immediately making my putt while looking at the ball. It's taken me from 3-4 three putts per round to making 2 three putts in the last 54 holes.
I can't believe that such a simple idea would improve my putting so dramatically....Eureka!

Cheque's in the post for the kind comments :D
Even though I forgot to give you those balls to try!

I had a lesson a few days before FP with the pro at a local range. I'd never been to him before.

He thought the cause of my sometimes pull, sometimes push fade (which is why I went for a lesson), was my right hand/arm being too much in control of the swing which was causing my left shoulder to lift early.

He moved the ball back a bit for my driver, changed my right hand grip so it was more in the fingers, and moved my hands in front of the clubhead at address.

Before I saw him I was hitting maybe 4 or 5 fairways per round at my course which is fairly open. At FP I didn't keep track of the Saturday round, but on the Sunday I hit 11/14. I don't need to tell you how tight it was there :D

My worry is I'll lose whatever it is that's happened to make me hit straighter, which is why I was wondering how many improvements to peoples swings have stuck with them.

I'm not a naturally talented golfer, so no Eureka moments here.

But a general improvement based on getting onto the range as often as possible.

It's tough getting a little better, but easy to get a lot worse.

I picked some up myself. Can't tell that much difference between the b300 and b300s, however, they are both staying with me as ball of choice (until I lose them all)

I'm glad you didn't let Smiffy know you had a lesson before the weekend, he would have had you playing off scratch!

Stick with whatever working mate and keep gaining in confidence with the changes.

I've had plenty but it doesn't last long. Eureka moments for me are just corrections in my swing that I don't understand and cover up all the faults for a few days, weeks if I'm lucky, only thing that's worked for me are regular lessons.

THe only lesson I've ever had was a free 30 minute one when I first joined a club back in '93. The Pro looked at my swing and told me to stop dropping my left shoulder and I'd be alright.17 years on and I still don't do it.

I had a golf lesson in 1994 which changed my life. Sadly, I overdid the drill and it still haunts me 16 years later.

I've taken some of the S&T fundamentals following my recent game with James and it is making a lot of sense. The turn is better and I'm not getting so much of the lateral body movement on the way down. It's not perfect and not a finished article but the set up and the intial turn are making great differences

You have 7 days left to perfect it (GM Ascot meet) :D :D

Going from shanking every wedge to actually enjoying the short game, real night and day eye opener. Got to thank our assistant pro who picked up on a split second flaw I had.

I went to see Mark Rayson at Ramside where I was a member previously, I went from 17 - 10.7 in just over a year. Got a more consistant swing and took the majority of the lateral movement out. Started with a video lesson, and it was good to actually see where I was going.
Swing is still solid, but my issue at the mo is mental and I dont know how to solve that! :(
