in recent matchplay final one of the two finalists, the lower handicapper, rings the green keeper beforehand to ask him to make the course set up as hard as possible. He ignores the request but the person who rang wins the trophy. Is this not a breach of etiquette by someone not even on the committee and should there be a penalty enforced?

Not really sure that a rule has been broken but it would be rightful to make the story as widely heard as possible to show the bloke up as being an utter plonker.

(Replace the work plonker with a suitably offensive word that really describes the person accurately)

How do you know that happened?

If accurate and not a 19th hole piece of gossip thats sad, if not a little shocking. I doubt this is against any rules but would surely go against the internal etiquette of the club where the committee etc control the set up of the course

not bad etiquette i would say just Knobbish...

a bit like the story i head this year.

long before the final, person who was a prev winner of the club champs, goes in to measure the name space to see their new double barrel name would fit on it.
