Etiquette Question

Really depends on the club, personally I don't think it does any damage and I wouldnt get at anyone for doing it.

I just feel I should respect the green by not walking on it with my bag, out of politeness to the green itself really,so I walk around greens unless they are huge or it causes undue delay.

At Brandon Dunes in oregon, built on sand, they actually request that you take your trolley straight across green rather than round it!

I heard that Adidas are bringing out the "hover shoe" next year!

Seriously, is this a wind up? Bag only weighs about 10Kg max. Not really a big proportion of the average golfers weight and they only walk straight across the green once, usually nowhere near the hole. What would the problem be?

I do not want to start a fight but I cannot understand why anyone would want to want to walk straight over a green if not actualy putting.
It is not a path ,even if in a direct line to the next tee.
Am very surprised that some of the replies from forummers I respect ,think it is acceptable.

Oddly enough, I don't do it in company. ??

actually, thinking about it, I'm not sure I do it at all. My bag is usually dropped in the "exit" area of the green anyway.

Got into the habbit of not walking across when I trolleyed so seems quite natural not to walk across when I occasionally carry.

Have noticed foot marks of some who do carry across... but this was in wet winters on parkland greens.:mmm:

On further reflection, I would probably agree that it isn't a problem to walk across carry a full bag of clubs...with 2 dozen balls.;)

I don't agree with it but @ 51 I'm maybe just an old fart  Then there's the folk that use their trolley as close to the green as possible saying what apron

The thread and these replies are a wind up surely? you dont think walking to your ball and marking while carrying your ultralight bag with various clubs is acceptable but you say nothing about the 18 stone players and the ones who lean heavily on their putter when retrieving the ball from the hole.

Get a grip guys, the greens are meant to be walked on.

Sorry ,I may have misunderstood the OP.!!
I certainly do not expect us all to do handstands to the flag or ouf ball!!!!
I do see players as stated in above posts, walking to the next tee in a bee-line straight over greens. This I feel is wrong, greens are not paths and if we all did it as a routine I know wear would ensue.IMO of course.
As players we can do nothing about the weight of fellow members but we can treat the greens with due respect.
Each to their own I suppose?
