Is it really necessary to spend time repairing pitch marks and replacing divots etc when playing at an away course? Always seems a bit pointless to me as you aren't going to be playing the course again any time soon.

I agree, I'm playing some place called Hayling soon, I'll try it out there....

The greens are really firm at Hayling so very unlikely to leave any pitch marks

I just played a heavily green fee player resort course in Australia last week - the greens were like minefields on what is supposed to be one of the better layouts over there. It is sad but true that green fee players really do seem to go in with that view.

I know this is merely a wind-up thread overall, but in response to the above, there is no difference between green fee payers and members when it comes to repairing the course - some do it religiously and more besides their own, and some just can't be bothered. Singling out green fee payers is unfair...

Well spotted Jezz. Just something that came up in conversation today at Blackmoor, although this thread is in jest it seems to be the attitude of some players when playing away :(

Obviously we left the course in the same condition we found it

Fully agree

We have a good deal amount of members who feel it's beneath them to repair pitch marks , fill in divots on the tee and even rake a bunker.

I bet some of us didn't. Certainly one of my playing partners was littering the place with golf balls pretty much the whole way round.

Maybe it is tongue in cheek, but judging on the amount of unrepaired pitch marks at my place after the scratch open you'd think carrying a pitch mark repairer was optional :o

I have seen some shocking behaviour by visiting golfers recently. Massive divots gouged out of tees, unrepaired despite the proximity of a seed box, untucked shirts in the bar and even golf shoes in the dining room!!!

Gold golf shoes, in a dining room? Ridiculous.

True, I guess I'm just singling out an example of having played at a course where 90% of the traffic was green fee players (including me) and the state the greens were in on the day. Fair comment though, the courses I've been a member of over the years have also had their days, although I've never seen anything like the recent round I mentioned. (P.s. just to confirm, I'm also aware that this is a wind-up thread!).

...

Worst Greens for pitch marks I ever saw was immediately following a Club Competition that started at 07:30 so it was members that caused them! I might not fix mine occasionally, but I generally fix 2 or 3 - or more!! - others!
