Anybody play in the Essex area, looking for an away day at a 'posher' club than my local to get out there a bit with some mates?
Any suggestions?

Not played them myself yet but have heard that 5 lakes and The Essex were in good condition earlier in the year from a mate that played there. Not sure how they will be holding up after the recent rain.

Got to say, I have never heard anything good about Five Lakes.

There are some nice clubs in Essex. All those mentioned above, I would add in Stockbrook Manor and possibly West Essex.

I personally think Chelmsford is excellent, but then I might be a bit biased :whistle:

I didnt realise you were based there. Nice tracked, only played it once but really liked it. It would be I my list to join if I lived a bit closer.

I only joined there in August. It's only 5 mins down the road from my house so very convenient. If you ever fancy a round give me a shout.

I have two members from another forum coming to join me at my local club - Three Rivers (Nr South Woodham Ferrers) on Saturday 2nd November, you are more then welcome to come down and join us for a 4 ball.

We are meeting at 8am for a tee time somewhere between 8.40 and 9am. Round will cost you either £20 or £25 (can't remember which), and we'll be sticking around for a few beers and some food afterwards.

Let me know if your interested.

Glad I had a look at this thread now. Am planning to take the missus and kids away fro a few days next week and had been looking at Five Lakes as a possible. Bit of golf for me, spa for her and swimming pool/Colchester Zoo for the kids. Will have to look elsewhere. Any recommendations for somewhere around the Colchester area to stay?

Despite my forum name I actually live in north suffolk and am a member of Dunston Hall near Norwich. I was born in Chelmsford and grew near Colchester hence my unfortunate allegiance to the mighty Col U.

I assume this is aimed at myself / anybody on this thread, thanks for the offer, Mav! Unfortunately I am already playing on that day at Hartswood in Brentwood otherwise I would have bit your hand off with the offer. If anything changes, and you have a space still, I will give you a shout :thup:

Was a member of Crowlands, but am re-newing at the beginning of March time to get ready for the nicer weather. I will throw Maylands into the mix also, as i have played there once and seemed a nice course. Anybody played there ?
 
Played Maylands a couple of times, nice course. I would say where you are you should try and play Romford as a treat, very nice course.

I live in Romford and work just off crow lane, but have never played crowlands, been to the range a couple of times though. I am a member Ilford, have been for 17 years, we used to live in Seven Kings then moved to Gidea Park around 11 years ago, joined Romford, but I stayed at Ilford as I knew everyone there and played all my golf there.

I have heard good things about Romford course, but need a member to sign you in I believe. I think I have played Ilford before, is that where the clubhouse and course are on seperate sides of the A406 and cross a bridge to get too?
I think around here, Romford and Maylands are premium course, but dont know too many. Trying to arrange a round with a friend over Abridge as thats meant to be quite nice.
