Essendon Golf Club

Played there last year in a pro am - nice courses , nice club house , but atmosphere wasn't great

not played there myself for ages but was speaking to my Dad recently and on all accounts its changed hands and theyve sunk a fair bit of money into the place and made good progress

Not a member, but played the Old Course and quite enjoyed it - if a little inclined to get soggy (London Clay). Some recognisable 'family' architectural features.

Mate is quite happy playing there as a variation from his place and likes the New Course as well.

Club-house is pretty swish - originally Japanese owned, so high quality environment.

Played here last September, as others have said the clubhouse is very nice.

I think I played the old course which has 2 greens per hole, they use 1 green for summer and 1 for winter. Nice course, played with a member and hopefully get back there again this year.

The new course has 2 greens per hole, I have played there loads over the years, very good courses with excellent facilties and clubhouse.

Long shot but is anyone a current member that could give an honest opinion on the courses?.

Thanks in advance.

Ryan

Have played both courses many times, both very different in their feel but both enjoyable, I prefer the old course but the new has its good holes too.

I have not played it in the last twelve months, but I hear the new owners are doing a good job and its becoming more of a golf club than a golf course, time was when the bar shut at around 8pm and the whole place had zero atmosphere but I am told thats improving too.

If you havn't played there its definetley worth a game, if your considering joining you need better feedback than I can give you.

My mates a member there, says both courses in really good condition. He prefers the Old course.

I've only played there once as a bit of a trek from Kent, played the new course and thought it was very good. Some really good holes, well laid out with risk/reward shots.

We are going there for our work society in July for 36 holes

I've played the old, but not since the club changed hands so can't comment on current condition. When we played it, the layout was interesting but the condition was poor.

The two courses are quite different in character (old parkland, and newer watery iirc) which is a good thing.

If you like parkland, I can recommend Brickendon which is a couple of miles away and similar to the old course, but (I think) in better nick. I'm biased tho, as I'm a member.

You do have to be wary of the drainage in winter if you're thinking of joining up. Most courses in the area are on London clay and really struggle when it's wet like this year.

We played there last year in a 36 hole society day. Lovely clubhouse, nice lunch, the old course was fabulous - really great condition, and interesting to play. Have to say we were massively upset about the condition of the greens on the new course, they were in terrible condition - really spoiled the day for all of us (we all commented that we would have preferred to play the old course again, the greens were that bad).
