Ok it was online on BBC 3 but it's a start.

I would consider getting Sky if it had an eSports channel... maybe

IMO it's still early days, feels a bit early days of robot wars but not as polished.

Ok the Beeb probably don't have much say over the shoutcasting but hopefully bigger audience means more cash and maybe a polish up before it hits more mainstream.

Really looking forward to the CSGO and RL, only caught an hour or so last night of the SFV but enjoyed it.

Anyone else watch it?

In English please .........

If the were called egames i'd maybe take accept it.

Sport should involve some level of athleticism........

Goes for snooker, pool and many others imo

By calling someone sitting there playing a game console "sport" it's a big reason for me why obesity is on the rise , why people play less sports

Why would kids go out and play with a football in a field when they can sit down playing on a console pretending to be a footballer

Playing on a console is not a sport , never should be called a sport.

Consoles are the worst things to happen to real true sports

But isn't it up to the 'real' sports to make themselves easy to play, attractive to youngsters and essentially fun? Blaming consoles is way too simplistic in my opinion, you can look at governments selling off of playing fields, the increased focus on academic subjects in schools at the expense of sports, the increased cost of a lot of sports, the way some sports just have not moved with the times, the increased paranoia which certain parts of the media want to foster about not letting your child out of your site until they are 18, feckless parents who do nothing to encourage their kids to play sport, hell even parents who just get angry on the sidelines and win at all costs whilst exorcising their sporting disappointments and failures through their child. I take my daughter to play a few sporting events and watch my nephews play a lot of sport and often I just think, are they actually having fun out there?

People making a lot of money on youtube and other platforms just playing games and streaming it. Maybe the BBC wants a share of that money.

Playing sport is fun - it's getting out and inter acting with fellow human beings in the fresh air. I went out and playing any sport I could after school or at weekend. We didn't even need a field sometimes , playing football in a car park or just finding a bit of grass.

Sport is just sport - it's a physical activity and competing against each other - it's not hard to play any sport - but what consoles have done is allow kids the ability to play to a level of the top players ( all false of course ). Kids don't go out knocking on their friends doors to arrange a kick about in the nearest bit of grass - they arrange to meet on line , why ? Because it's the easy thing to do - the one with the least effort.

All this moving with the times etc is all just nonsense and most of the time just people finding excuses to justify them sitting on their backsides whilst playing a game eating crisps.

Calling someone pressing buttons on a console add to the justification that allows people to be lazy

Can't get much easier than hit it, find it and hit it again...

The 'pressure' comes from the desire of wishing to do it well...
Be it 'real' sports or console 'sports'...

You are describing the theory as opposed to the practical skills involved and the associated 'etiquette'. You can reduce most sports down to a simple procedure but that hides what really happens in reality. But I agree that if golf was only ever 'hit it, find it and hit it again' without anything else then the game would be much more attractive to many.

Kids haven't suddenly stopped playing sports because they'd rather play Fifa or TW on the Xbox.
Kids still like to play on their bikes, play football etc.
Half the problem is the lazy arse parents that can't be bothered doing anything with their kids or cooking proper meals.
Much easier to stick them in front of the tv and feed them crap.

Just about everything we do in life, whether we like it or not, requires [to some extent] observing an 'associated etiquette'...
It's the basis that forms a functioning society...

I agree. It's just that some sports seem to be perceived as having a lot of it that may come across as old fashioned and seem unwelcoming for anyone wanting to take the sport up and have a bit of fun.

I tells you, the first time I played crown green bowling I was so scared of doing something wrong and being shouted at by some jobsworth....

In theory yes, in practice how much are we as a society losing the fun from it. I read a really interesting article recently about sport nowadays becoming more 'professionalized' at a younger and younger level. People are looking for elite sportspeople more and more, football at a young level is becoming less and less about having a kickabout and more about being scouted and spotted, same with lots of other sports.

The Olympic funding, indeed the finding of a lot of sports nowadays depends on them getting medals, which in turn leads to more pressure on kids to effectively be really good at it. There are whole industries built around identifying elite sports people from which is great for UK sport at an elite level, but I'm not sure how much it encourages young kids to persist who are not at that elite level

Totally agree this is part of it. I'm trying my best to get my boy exercising and playing outside instead of watching TV and tablet.

He is only two and I have to learn how to provide those things. I'm fighting both my own desire to plonk down in front of a PC and my desire not to be a lazy parent.

Some days I am the lazy parent, it's not bad occasionally (we call them pj days) but it's not the norm.

It's going to take a lot of effort on my part as he grows but I'm going to do my best to get him outside and feed him well.

I'm just so tired all the time and I only have one!

Do you actually play golf ? Do you even like golf ?

The reason I ask is you post nothing but negative about the sport , you appear to do nothing but run it down as this ancient stuck in the past sport . A lot of people work very hard to try and get people into this sport and try and dismiss the idea it's just for old men but I expect if the read what you post they would wonder why they bother

Where was there anything I said in the post you quoted about golf, I quoted football as an example? Yes I think it has problems in attracting young people to the game but I was talking about many sports.
