error 31 bushnell

recently my bushnell has come up with the error 31 sign and i was wondering if anybody had any experience with this and success at getting it fixed.
I googled and apparently it just needs reprogramming by bushnell, however when I emailed bushnell they said that whilst they can inspect it they cannot fix it due to them being sealed units.
So i was wondering if anybody had any knowledge of this and perhaps know if it can be fixed and where

Heard of it and believe it's 'fatal'.

I believe they have some sort of replacement policy, but uncertain whether it's free - probably depends on the age of the unit.

Bushnell are pretty good for customer service apparently.
