Just on my way home and seen that the Big Easy had a comfortable day today with a solid,if unspectacular, -2. But it got me thinking, is it fair that current tour pros can be involved in the redesign of courses for major championships? If Ernie posts a top ten finish this week how much extra benefit had he obtained by his close involvement to the redesign?

Redesigns don't hit the shots or putts for him. I don't think he would have designed the course around his game eg burn at 287 yds as he carrys his driver 290.

Heheheh like your post he still has to hit the shot and also pros get to play the course and will know just as much about the course as himself i reckon

Well that told me then ;)

only reason I was thinking it in this instance is that it only reopened recently after the redesign and the players and caddies would have probably had a first look at it this week. Just wondered whether at elite level that extra familiarity with the changes would have given him an advantage of 1 or 2 shots on the field.

Obviously not though :D
