Entering a competitionscore at your club, do you enter it onto a computer, submit your card or both? Are both necessary?

For my roundlast Saturday I am listed on master scoreboard as ‘no score recorded’. I didn’tenter my score on to the computer in the locker room because it wasn’t workingat the time, but I did submit my scorecard. I had 34 points with CSS being 35,but I’ve now got my 0.1 back.

We have to do both. The score on the computer has to be checked against the card and the card checked to ensure that it has been signed and correctly filled in so both are necessary. I am sure that it may possible to just hand the card in but no doubt it causes all sorts of hassle for the club and the poor person sorting out the results.

Currently we ask that people enter onto the PC as well on the scorecard - there is currently no punishment for not entering it into the PSI but would like to do something about it because it is quite frustrating every Monday havinb to put someone's card in because they couldn't be bothered

Big difference between couldn't be bothered and wasn't working though.

Seems a little harsh that you've been .1'ed when the PC wasn't working.

Had plenty of people write on the card - pc wasnt working - yet their fc could enter their score as could yhe players before and after

Admittedly, I should have gone and spoke to the Pro about the computer not working, but its not the first time its happened and they usually just tell you to submit your card.

I understand the scores being entered on the computer makes life a lot easier for the guys who look after it, but I thought there would be at least some sort of cross referencing where they would have seen my actual scorecard filled in correctly even though it wasn't recorded on the computer.

I agree. Out of laziness not acceptable. Faulty system, not really your fault.

We use Master Scoreboard also however the secretary does all the inputting. We just fill out the cards. If incorrect entered as no return.

you need to speak to your handicap sec because he is required to operate the handicapping correctly - and the rules of golf do not permit you to be disqualified for not entering the score in the computer (6-6b/8 is specific, and goes on to cover what clubs may, or should, implement to persuade members to use (working) systems.)

Q.May a Committee, as a condition of competition, provide that a competitor must enter his score into a computer?

A.No. Such a condition would modify Rule 6-6b.

However, while it is not permissible to penalize a player under the Rules of Golf for failing to enter his score into a computer, a Committee may, in order to assist in the administration of the competition, introduce a "club regulation" to this effect and provide disciplinary sanctions (e.g., ineligibility to play in the next club competition(s)) for failure to act in accordance with the regulation.

So. if you correctly returned your card it should be included in the results; it also has to be included in the CSS calculation or that is invalid (which is why you need to involve the handicap sec!) ie the ramifications for not including your, and other, scores are really quite significant.

Thanks mate. I've sent the club an email about it.

We are suppose to enter in PSI and submit the card as well. I don't think it's a necessity to put it in the computer as there scores usually have something like "warning no score in PSI". I guess frequent offenders may eventually get some grief from the HC secretary.

Not your fault if the PC wasn't working correctly. Comps & Handicaps man not doing his job properly. Most clubs prefer members to enter their scores into the computer, but it is not mandatory. If you have handed in a correctly completed and signed card, then the C&H guy should have entered your score for you in the event that the computer wasn't working. He cannot DQ you for not entering a card, and he will HAVE to undo the comp, enter your score, then close the comp again. You should then get your 0.1 back.

100% this if your card was handed in correctly.

WE have enter into computer and then put in box below.
Competitors are D/Q'd if score not entered on computer, in light of above answers will inquire why this is .
