Just got back from a fantastic five days in Ireland. Drove 850 miles whilst there but will talk about that on me Ireland thread.
The two courses that were recommended on this forum were just outstanding. Ave thought about it for a fair bit which course i preferred and theres nowt between them for me. Both courses have some fantastic memorable holes. Three of which are rated in the top 100 holes in Ireland.
The wind and rain made them both true links conditions.
Now having played several links courses, my butt was firmly on the fence of not to sure, but now Tashyboy is well and truly converted. Having played Goswick in May, all four of us that played were a bit underwhelmed. These two blow Goswick out of the water.
Now having said that ( and it is only my opinion) i am also of the opinion that these two courses are not rated as highly as they should be (especially Carne) solely because of there location. If these courses were nearer to cities or more easily accessible they would be rated higher.
Now one thing that puzzled me was that when the four of us played Northumberland in May, we played on a coastal deal which was arranged between, Goswick, Bamburg and Foxton Hall, again through the advice on here. Why Carne, Enniscrone and Sligo have not got there heads together and sorted out a similar deal i do not know. Especially seeing as they do a comp (July 2017) for the three courses for the measly price of 160 euro.
Stunning country and some stunning golf. For the record i had me ass kicked twice by both courses.

Haven't played Carne yet but it's on the "must play soon" list but I have played Enniscrone a few times and it is a truly fantastic golf course and in my opinion doesn't rank as highly as it should in comparison to some other courses over here that rank way higher than it.

There are some magnificent holes through huge dunes especially on the back 9 and the stretch from 12-16 is breathtaking.

If you are planning a return trip over in the future try to get up to Donegal and I will show you round my place as well as the other great courses up this neck of the woods.

P.S. That was normal west of Ireland weather 🙄☔️

smange will defy contact you when i am over again, The 4th and 13th at enniscrone are rated in the top 100 in the Irish golfer mag. The 13th is a truly stonking hole which i proper messed up but the 14th called "The valley of diamonds" is just gorgeous.

Missis T has asked me where i would go next time we go over. Will have to look at Donegal:D

Welcome anytime mate, loads of great golf courses up here including 2 at my place Ballyliffin, Donegal, Narin & Portnoo, 2 at Rosapenna to name a few just and you also have Portrush, Porstewart & Castlerock all within driving distance in NI.

That's just a few reasons fo convince the Mrs that driving more of the Wild Atlantic Way is a great idea, add in plenty of Smithwicks and what more could you ask for? Well, a bit of sunshine would be nice, maybe you could bring some with you 🙄

Cannot guarantee the sunshine. I have never played on a course where I had to play a shot level with my eyes until this week. 😁

Carne ,Enniscrone and Conemmara where on our list for this year but we're going further south

Where are you lot playing this year Steve?

Glad you are a convert to links golf.

Courses don't tend to be rated on where they are and don't get better rated because they are near cities. Royal Dornoch is about as far away from anywhere as you could get.... in the top 10 in the world

Sadly only 2 of us this year Stephen but we're playing Waterville,Tralee,Dooks and Dingle Links, we're going the same weekend as the Ryder Cup so golf during the day and watch that at night

Nice line up of courses there mate and good planning on the timing. Hope this bloody weather picks up for you as its been miserable lately.

Didn't realise at the time when we booked it that the Ryder Cup was on , yeah courses look superb and at that time of year the weather is normally not to bad
