English girls under 14/16 Open Championship 8-10 August

The English girls under 14 and under 16 Open Championships are being held at Blackmoor this Tuesday to Thursday.

Saw some of the girls practicing on the course on Saturday. Girls from all round Europe playing, so I imagine the standard is pretty good. Course is in lovely condition and the heather is in full bloom, though they will need to keep out of it.

Anyone around the area should try and see some of the golf. Amazing how far they hit the ball with such smooth swings.

Wondered what the signs on the A3 last week were all about!

Just watched the last round of the Under 16's. two English girls finished 3 under after 54 holes, and it was won on the first extra hole with a birdie. Girl that won also birdied the last two holes, to make up two shots and get into the play off. Feel very sorry for the girl that lost, as she made the fatal mistake of going 20 feet long on the last. Two putts would have won the championship for her.

Both girls hit a long ball, with the winner hitting a 280 yard drive down 18, nearly into the cross bunker 90 yard short of the green. She needed a gap wedge in. Oh and the hole is a par 5 for the ladies.:ee

Couple of observations. Some of the girls play incredibly slowly. I would be warn out after so many practice swings. A lot of them also take big divots with their practice swings, even on the tees with short irons.
