I read that the had placed the pins for southwest wind and it blow from north instead, or viceversa, but that is one explaniation to the high scores and they have tightened the fairways around the landingzonez. Hope some of the saunton lads will be succesful this week.

Just read that a 19yo lad aced the 18th on the West course, his 6th ace. Greedy little git!! :D

South of England Am produced higher scores - all +3 or +4 except for 2 +2s

Only the winner was (1) under Par!

i looked at the opens there for this summer, but entry had closed but i saw it, not for another 2 weeks though the open week!
got in at a few comps at RND instead, which isnt far away, cant bloody wait!! my first open comp, so a bit nervous too

The 36 hole open is on Sunday, the English finishes on Saturday so course setup is going to be pretty much the same. I know a few guys playing this week and they are very tidy players. I'm not going there expecting to break the course record

amazing golf course. i play there opens every year (but not this weekend). 2 summers ago, they had fertilised the rough expecting a dry summer, it ended up being warm and wet. Safe to say if you missed the fairway you lost your ball. 3 Cat1 golfers hit 9 tee shots on the 3rd!

The CSS on English Amateur is only the same as the card SSS, meaning a number of people are reaching buffer.

managed to bag a last minute spot in the open stableford on the 11th Aug, west course off the yellows. been studying the course online, seems like its going to be fun!!! any tips?

Hit it straight :D

West course is quite fiddly i always think, need to be on the correct side of the fairway to attack greens as the greens are fairly tight.

on the 2nd, take a 5 and get out of there. hate that hole!!

ha, i bet!! going through the course guide and it does seem a loely course!!! some say slightly easier than the 'better' East course, but as long as i enjoy it, should be fun

The East is definitley better but the West is certainly still a very good course. I find the toughness of the west very much depends on the wind, if it blows its probably harder as its more exposed than the east. However, if it blows the right way, the last 5 holes all play straight downwind softening the blow slightly.

you'll love it
