Watched this last night as I ended up working and it was looking like extra time, until the own goal, 30 secs of normal time left, gutted for the lass (Basset) who put through her own net, an awful way to lose.

On the plus side though, they played well through the tournament and did themselves proud.

Not disappointed, only proud of them. Big games are often won and lost by marginal degrees, it was a shame but won't be the first or last incident like that.

The team acquitted themselves well; no scandals, just hard working athletes getting on with the job as best they could. Respect to that.

I didn't think either were penalties. Japan's was just outside but I guess it's hard to tell when they're running at pace and the foul continued into the box

Have you got any links to them? Friends watching this reckoned Japan's was outside the box, but England's was a true penalty shout.

Desperately unlucky to go out having hit the woodwork twice in the second half. Neither were a penalty and heartbreaking to see them lose to such a freak deflection from a defender doing her job on th eedge of the box. On the plus side it was a great tournament for them and they should all feel extremely proud of what they achieved

I've enjoyed this World Cup immensely. Such a refreshing change from the men. No rolling around on floor in apparent agony at every slight contact. No surrounding the referee and screaming in his face because he gave a corner instead of a goal kick. No feeling of contempt in the pit of my stomach.

I didn't watch much of this but you're right all played in the correct spirit of the game. The men could learn a lot from the women!!!!!

Trying to do her job maybe as Doing it correctly would mean no deflection and a solid clearance?

It wasn't a deflection, she had to attempt to clear the ball otherwise the Japanese player would've got the ball and more than likely have scored. Basset got a foot to the ball, but the ball just looped over the keeper, just one of those damned if you do, damned if you don't incidents.

After all the hype of the World Cup & everyone saying how great women's football is,how many people will be going along to watch women's football?

I watched a bit of the world cup. The most notable thing is that the goalies are rubbish.
