Just been reading on twitter that apparently one of the England players who played on we'd is going to do a exclusive with the Sunday sun and come out as openly gay. I just hope he gets the respect he deserves and mindless idiots don't abuse him! Secondly let's hope he's coming up out by choice and he's not been blackmailed into it,.

No it shouldn't, but sadly it is quite a big deal. One day people will be able to be "openly gay" (hate that phrase) without any fear and without anyone caring but we're not there yet. No doubt, if true, he'll be criticised for "making a song and dance about it".

If it's true, then fair play to whoever it is. It's a very brave thing to do to be the first player still playing in one of the major leagues to come out.

I heard that, but then heard it was a hoax by someone on twitter.

Also loads of people saying its Ashley Cole because the sun football followed him on twitter yesterday and he is the only footballer they follow apparently. A lot of people saying they thought it might be Luke Shaw but he tweeted last night saying 'It's not me chill out'.

Would be big for football if true, just a bit mad that it's classed as news!

EDIT: after posting this Ashley Cole has just tweeted saying he is "chicks only" haha. I've got a feeling its a bit of a twitter stir tbh.

Not for against the sun. But fact remains. Any paper that got the exclusive would have it as their top story.

Coming out is the best thing he could do (they all should, IMO, for their own good as much as any wider issue) but only a hypocritical few should be forced into that decision.
