My last round played, I set off on the front 9 and thought I was playing reasonable but not great and was 4 over after 6 holes, then on the 7th (up to now never worse than par and very often birdie for me) I tried that big hit I know Im capable of.......ooooer! OB, bugger! next tee shot was way left in the rough, next shot hit a tiny tree and finished in the worst lie known to this universe, next overhit and shot out like a rat up an aquaduct back of green, next fluffed a iddy biddy chip, next chip, hit the flag and finished on the lip, down for 8.
Next hole par 3(windy) came up just short of green (couldve putted) chipped to within 3 feet, sneezed as I walked to the ball and confidently and cockily putted quickly with eyes still moist and sparkling lol. You guessed it down for 4.
9th hole saw my driving reach to new depths of horror, I havent gone across an entire neighbouring fairway to the next for many yrs.lol. Hit a beautiful iron back to the green only the mound of the bunker intervened and spat it hard right into the rough ...PIN HIGH though.lol
Chipped on and saw a beautiful shot curve gently down to the hole, throwing a penny in as it went passed with one of its bum cheeks dangling in there just to annoy me as it went, rolled down the hill and left me 10 ft. Ironic that it did exactly the same on the return journey.ha ha .

10 over after nine holes ( 9 h/c ooops.)
Back 9, nuckled down, concentrated but didnt over try. Three good birdie chances lipped out finished the day 11 over, the one lost stroke there was my only 3 putt Ive had for a long time.

My golf that day was below my normal standard particularily my driving, even on the back 9. I know many a golfer who would have died after a start like that and completely gone to pot, so never ever let it get you down, see the funny side to it all and keep pluggin in there.

I had a similar situation yesterday in the medal at my club, first hole, not played badly for a while, left myself 80 yards to the green after drive, s******d it out of bounds with a sand wedge :o finished with a 7, ended up was 6 over after 5, parred the 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th. Told my playing partner i was going to par the back 9, and and after 3 birdies, 3 pars and 3 bogies on the back 9(with 2 3putts, one for a par after driving the 18th) i succeeded in a gross 76, net 66 and hopefully a cut to single figures. Just need to wait and see where i finished in the comp.

Its fine when its is only one round and you bounce back afterwards but as someone who hasn't defended his handicap less a couple of buffer zones all year there comes a re time when a bad hole really becomes a problem. It doesn't matter where in the round it comes you just know you aren't playing well enough to score well enough to recover. The result is that one double bogey leads to another and slowly shots get frittered away until ther becomes a point when interst is lost. Even the obilgatory good shot or hole isn't enough to encourage as you know full well the next round and the one after that will all be the same.

I recently played with a mate who I play with regular, and he brought his brother..... his brother turned out to be a real s**t, even to the point where my mate threatened to punch him. Any bad shots where slagged off, rough found was laughed at and any good shot was lucky, jammie or a fluke. I personally enjoy the comaradarie (spelling?) of golf and trying to help and encourage others that are playing. I told my friend I wasnt willing to play with his brother again, and he said neither was he!

Medal today, 4 over for 7, 1 under h/cap. 7 on the 8th, easy par 4, lost ball, followed by single, single, double single, etc. Finished net 76. Rubbish. Parred in last 3 holes to secure rubbish score. Hello 11.6.

Hard to come back from 1 bad hole. Mental coach required. In more ways than one.

A tale of my current gameplay, I played yesterday and scored 40 points(76) with a 7 on my card in the front nine, carded a level par back nine and thought I recovered well, won nothing but was still happy.
Back out today identical conditions blue skies and a little wind, scored another 7 on a 340 yard straight away par 4 (oob whole left side) three birdies in the front nine saw me finish with 44 points (72 par71) yet again recovered well but just cannot keep a horrible score of the card. 13 pars 3 birdies a bogey and a triple bogey.... where do you go from there?? It is sometimes a bad teeshot, an over hit approach or maybe a bad pitch that turns out to be costly.
Forgot to mention, my recent upturn in consistency is down to a new 2ball putter but more importantly, standing closer to the ball at address, it turns out I was stretching a little and made for one hell of an inconsistant practice session until I figured it out.

Golf is the only sport where one bad shot makes for four wasted hours.

Nice to be out in the sunshine, but nicer still to have played half decent golf.

Is your course a par 70? Anyway regardless of that you mustve felt good comming in with that one, cracking effort matey.

Last medal of the year today and true to form it was going to be either a cut or 0.1 up - I don't do buffer zones..

Started badly, Bogey, Double Bogey, Double Bogey but then played the next 6 in par (1 bogey, 1 birdie rest pars). 5 over at the turn after that start and I was quite happy. Then another double followed by 2 pars and a birdie. Still looking ok. Then another double followed by a triple. A par and a bogey bogey finish left me nett 73 - 2 over. Not a disaster but those doubles and the triple killed me. And I even 4 putted a par 5 for a 7 for chrisakes- can't remember the last time I did that.

But at least there were some great holes in the mix. I hit a par 5 in 2 and had a couple of birdie chances lip out. Thats the sort of thing that keeps you coming back.

Only bummer is that I had to play a very low running punch under a tree on the 17th and I've tweaked something in my right hand. Don't know if I can play tuesday and we've got the big prizewinners end of season major next sunday.

Anyone got any bright ideas on relieveing pain in hands?

Started the year 12.4 now 11.1. Can't really complain.
