I have an important golf match in 36 hours and I need urgent help!

I've been to the range of couple of times so know how to swing a club (longer than every range user I've seen), but I think my playing partners are expecting me to be some kind of long drive expert and scratch golfer (I don't know why they would think this as I'm quite new to the game and rarely been on a course).

How much can I learn in 36 hours, and what should I concentrate on?

nothing tim. Swing within yourself. boom 1 long drive just to shut em up then play at 70/80% concentrating on accuracy.

Either way its gonna be a fun day at Beau so just enjoy it :D

Eh tim, just get to the range, and hit every club in your bag till you know the distance for each.

And as you hit them so straight, you'll only be on the fairways, so just choose the club to get you to the flag, plan each hole by using relevant clubs to get to the greens with those distances. Then 5 putt or whatever YOU do when putting :D

Doesn't matter how you play, or score, you just need to hit it long, very long. That's all we want to hear about Tim. It will be good to read about you on the course and not on the range. Good luck mate.

What happened to the "Winning means nothing to me" post last week?

Just play within yourself, accuracy more than distance and get to know how far you hit each club

Good Luck

I went to golf live yesterday and saw Joe Miller the World long Drive Champ

He hit a putter about 250 yards - i would suggest you get back down the range and practice your short game cos your bound to be at least as long!

Tim, there'll be some good natured ribbing (okay, there might be a LOT of good natured ribbing) but you'll also have respect for actually getting yourself out there in front of people, which is pretty brave considering your posting history.

Personally I'll be pleased to meet you and am expecting to at least to see you boom some down the range!

There isn't time to learn new skills so just relax and enjoy the day, there are 36 holes to play so we'll all have some good and some mares.

As far as practising, my advice is to hone that skill that you do have so swing that club as hard and fast as you can!

Joking aside. Just relax and enjoy your game. That more than anything will have the most effect on your performance.

If you boom one (or alot) of drives then all well and good, though you still need to put the little white ball 'in da hole'.

Personally, just because of your personna on here, I'd love to meet the man behind 'the mouth' (and I mean that in a good way) at a forum meet one day.

Have a good one.

Tim,

in the words of the great Frankie............RELAX!!

Just enjoy yourself...........everyone will welcome you as a Forum member.

Fair play to you for putting yourself forward for this at the last minute to help out.
Looking forward to meeting and playing with you. :D

If Rick's there as well then you've got nothing to worry about!!! All the attention will be on him as he'll have 12 drivers, 4 3 woods and 8 sets of irons with him....

He give you good price!! :D

Good luck Tim. Just enjoy it. Nothing better than walking the fairways. :D

Ah, no. That was a "pressure means nothing". I still like to win. From Mike Bassett (England Manager):

Interviewer: “How are you coping with the pressure?”

Mike Bassett: “Don’t make me laugh. This isn’t pressure. My Dad raised five kids single-handed, and there’s me Mum who was bed-ridden for year and years and years with arthritis, and done a full-time job. Then he’d go out on a Saturday and score three with his head. That’s pressure. Try storming a Japanese gun placement with only three bullets in your Tommy Gun, and taking one in the chest, and going on to win the VC. That, my friend, is what you call pressure. “

Interviewer: “Is that actually what your father did?”

Mike: “No, no, he never went to Japan, but somebody bloody did! And compared to them fellas, bloody hell, this is a walk in the park!”

Just go and enjoy the day, golf is supposed to be fun no matter what you score or how often you hit a good shot.

Would have liked to be there and meet you and everyone else playing. Lots of respect for you playing after the ribbing you get on here. Hope everyone has a great day...... :)

Surely this isn't an early show of nerves is it? Is is this an attempt at a bluff.

You've been banging on for weeks about what massive swing speed you have and how you hit the fence at the end of the range for ages. You've also been advised to get on a course since ranges bear no resemblance to a real golf course, but did you wind you neck in? No.

Be a man and take what comes. Maybe you will learn a few more valuable lessons or perhaps you will clean up and we may then all have to bow to your range prowess being transferred to the course.

Ah the presures of your first forum match... been there, done that, and hacked for the first 6 holes until i chilled, After that i had to carry my partner for the rest of the round.....

enjoy it, should be the first of many.
