No not rory and sergio :mmm:

Me,, I've been knocking it round lovely lately then bam from nowhere a double cross, a massive sliced drive into trouble , how the hell do you eliminate these mistakes , driving me mad I'm so close to the perfect round at times then wallop and the medal is ruined ggrrrrrrrrraahhhhhhhhfffuuuccccckkkkkaaahhhhhhhgrrrrrrrrr

One bad shot doesn't ruin a round, but trying to play a miracle recovery can do.

If I get into trouble, obviously Id love to still make par, but my immediate thought is "how can I not make double". Bogeys don't ruin scorecards. :)

Oh, and to answer your question, I'm not sure we can eliminate them. We're amateurs with handicaps after all, we make mistakes.

Welcome to my world. The season has been littered with missed opportunities either for a buffer or handicap cut and once or twice for a top three. Playing 15 or 16 great holes and chucking two card busters in from nowhere.

they must be 2 pretty horrific holes Homer - if you have 16 great holes off 12 then you should still have a decent score and be getting a cut

Play safer on the holes that you really hate/struggle with (ie, expect to take 3 shots to get to the green even if it means teeing off with a 6-iron)

Being careful and consistent with your set up, and keeping your head relatively still and your eye on the ball helps quite a bit! :)

What if you don't have any holes you really hate or struggle with as a rule?
I can have a nightmare on any one of our holes but love them all for what they are.

This. I'm chucking them randomly and it can be tee shots, poor second shots or bunker/short game nightmares. I'll find a way to contrive fresh ways each week

With all the shots you get, maybe you need to look at your course management and utilise them to
reduce the big numbers.

It would seem me and homer are singing from the same hymn sheet!! Take Wednesday out in 40 I'm doing ok few Seve rescues but that's my game then a snowman then a 7 , somehow I birdie 2par5s but that makes my 86look respectable but a really it was an 80/81 round that I turned into an 86 fuming , oh it was the tee shots that got me in trouble

I will only bust driver when its completely safe to do so. Oob or water I play a really controlled shot sacrificing a bit of distance. a few wee trees ill give it a lash as you can just knock it back into play.

Recognising where the real danger is on any shot is a major advantage.

Get out of position, play a lay up and take the bogie and move on. Doubles and trebles ruin rounds.

While its fine saying play it safe after a bad shot it doesn't always work out that way.
Take yesterday, I put my drive into a big bush, no worries reload and hope to make par with the 2nd ball, a good drive but 2nd finds greenside bunker, the sand is very wet and I thinned right over the green, chip back on and then leave first putt short miss the next and end up with a 9, without ever trying for a "glory shot"

It was an 88 round that you turned into an 86 with a couple of birdies, you might think it was an 80/81 round but then we ALL consider that we leave shots out there. It takes time else you'd already be off scratch :)

If you're slicing (or hooking) your tee shots then you might consider learning what causes a slice and take measures to stop them happening. Simples :p

It's very rare in golf that you shoot a score you don't deserve.

The problem with golf is that I know from practicing on the range that I will hit a small proportion of poor shots, but on the course I don't know where or when they will happen. If you play safe and still hit a really bad shot, you are often worse off than if you went for it!
:mmm:

Happened again lol , out in 41 going well putting beautifully , and well absolute meltdown , error after error , mistake followed by shocking lies in 49 , 90 feeling desperate about my game even tho I know I'm striking the ball well ,sulks

Didn't follow my own advice. Duffed my drive on a par 4 and couldn't reach the green, but hit 3 wood anyway and stuffed it in the trees. Ended up with a 6 when it should have been an easy 5 at worst with hopefully a putt at a par.

Have I learnt? Who knows!

Yet again.... made double on a very short par 4 (our 4th) and then a double on the next (par 5) although missing from a foot was inexcusable. Double from middle of the fairway on 14 and then cricket scores on 17 and 18. Despite all that still got 32 points but one that got away.
