Merry christmas folks.

With the countdown on until the new golf season, I've been thinking about getting an electric trolley. However rather than jump in at the deep end, I'm looking to pick up a 2nd hand model.

Trouble is it's not something I know much about and as I look through gumtree and eBay there are a few different models and versions.

So I'm after a little steer from you guys. What are the models to look out for, what are the ones to avoid etc. Anyone got one that they are looking to shift on.

Thanks in advance :whoo:

Better to jump in the deep end, only really got two season out of my 2nd hand electric before I had to start replacing parts.

Bite the bulketband get a mid range one new, will be worth it if you play often.

Go lithium if you can!

Started off with a cheap one, which lasted 13 months. Got another cheap one, which lasted marginally longer. Then bought a Motocaddy, which lasted about 6 years. I replaced it with another Motocaddy 27 months ago, which is running fine.

if you buy cheap, you'd need to replace it several times before you would need to splash out on another good one.

If you want something cheap, robust and reliable I'd go for a Powakaddy Classic. They go on forever, mine is 5 years old now and still on the original 2 18hole batteries I bought it with. It's not fancy, it goes and it stops and that's about it. No fancy features to break. Only part I've had to replace is the front wheel which cost about £12. Should be a few on the bay for sensible money.

go kart superb in there after care, that guy sandy is a diamond;) she knows im only joking:thup:.

but 1 problem i have noticed with them(or just mine)is when the winter wheels are on it tends to jump on the gearbox, which in turn wears out the plastic cogs inside which then means either mending it yourself(which i did)or sending it off to go kart.so ive now banished mine to the garage and it will see the light again in the summer.

so ive pulled out 1 of the other battery trolleys i have(5 in total),power caddy fw11 which was also bought cheaply from the bay of e,which ive now had about 3 years, with a letter from p/c themselves stating it needed a new motor at a cost of 95 odd quid,er no it didnt theres a design fault that allows moisture to gain entry to the motor spline and this resulted in the main bearing seizing to the shaft of the motor,3 quid from ebay and hey presto working luvly jubbly.

if your handy with a socket set theres plenty of bargains out there to be had.

Thanks guys.

Don't really want to go above £130 - £140 so I'm looking to get a well looked after 2nd hand model.

Quite like the look of the motocaddy M1.

you should get a decent trolley for that ammount of dosh.
but do remember dont take the word of the seller on the state of the battery, allow some extra for a new 1.

my pro shop was selling a VERY VERY OLD power caddy(the white 1)refurbed for 95 quid in the summer and some MUG bought it lol.

drive for show,
ive still got an original 'caddy matic' weighs a ton,it was my 1st foray into battery trollies and ive had it over 10 years, absolutely BOMB PROOF i could put a battery on it and off she goes.

Motocaddy do sell reconditioned and ex demo on their web site. As a guide the pro I got my S1 from is selling the ones they used last season for 300 notes with an 18 hole lithium battery.

As others have said there is a danger you could spend that amount of money on a second hand one and then need to buy a new battery or replacement parts soon. From my limited research GoKart and Hillbilly seemed good reputable ones at the cheaper end of the market, so not sure if it might be worth seeing if you could stretch to one of those new as at least you will have the warranty on those?

I've gone down the cheap trolley route before now. it wasn't worth it.
In the end, many years ago now, I bought a new GoKart. Well worth the extra few bob and has given me excellent reliable service.
They can now be picked up second hand but the battery condition is a good point as you will spend £50 upwards for a new battery.

I spent £103 on a pro rider electric trolley on eBay. Old chap selling it as he's retired and it was well looked after. Came with a 36 hole battery too. Local pickup only but it was 10 miles away. Lovely! I'd read a few bad reviews but as with everything I like to make up my own mind and so far I can't fault it.

The original hillbillys are bomb proof if you can find one. Had mine for 10 years and the only fault was the brushes on the motor needed replacing. Sold it last year to a mate and it is still going strong. Only got rid because I went to a push trolley.

To be honest for bargain second hand price without battery is the Powakaddy, you can pick one up for under £50 and buy a new battery and still be within your budget, I brought a Powakaddy with a slipping clutch and sticky potentiometer for £11.50 of ebay it cost me £27 to replace the parts and it is mint, I also brought one from ebay as a mistake listing the guy put 2 powakaddy's on one digital one normal the non digital was for spares it came with a new set of Powakaddy winter wheels and a new set sports wheels as well as the wheels that were on the trolley a good battery and charger, he meant to put it on with a starting price of £49.95 but mistakenly did it as a buy it now price lol he was gutted.

Managed to pick up a motocaddy s1 digital.

It's been well looked after and in superb condition so a bit of a bargain.

Thanks for all the advice folks.
