So I went to the range tonight to try out some GI irons - wanted Ping G25s (had eye 2s for years and loved them) - got G25 7 iron, callaway xhot 6 iron and tm speedblade 7 and my own callaway big Bertha circa 2007 6 and 7

I'd hit tm rocketbladez stage 2 previously and hit them about same distance as my clubs but was knocking the speedblades a fair bit further than all the other clubs - having seen here about them having longer shafts as well as jacked lofts I compared then with my own 7 and the Ping - same length

The 15 yards extra matter to me a bit (I'm a short hitter) but much more importantly was how easy it was to hit and how accurate it was.

I'm gutted as I really wanted the pings and I'll give them a final chance when I get fitted next week but looks at the moment that I'm going to be a TM guy - they felt that much better than anything I've hit before and result was much better than I would ever have thought

Finally someone who wants new clubs mentions accuracy as well as distance.
Better dispersion will help you more than a few yards in length.
TM aren't as bad as some make out, enjoy your new clubs.

Unless its with the big stick I'm not too fussed about the extra distance irons give vs another brand. I have a mate I play with every week who hits a 9 iron as far as I hit my 7..... at first I felt inferior, why couldn't I hit my clubs as far as him. But then it slowly became ingrained in me that I was more accurate and my scores were lower.

What's more important.....Hitting the irons a long way or hitting them accurately?

My son, who is now ready for std length men's clubs was trying a few demo clubs at the range last week
One was the TM speedblade......had a hit myself, thought they looked extremely cheap, and feel no better
The Pings he tried, in comparison, different class
Easy to launch, high and straight

They would be my choice

I really do not understand the knocks that TM gets, sure they release plenty, isnt that a good thing?
Unless you change your clubs every year and expect top dollar trade ins, what difference does it make?

For most of us getting more distance will usually get you further in trouble unless your accuracy improves.

I like knowing the distances I get with each club of 'my' clubs (G25s) and don't really care if my PPs hit their 7 iron (or whatever club) further. We know there is no common 'loft' between manufacturers (TMs are usually made with less loft) so comparing each others' club distances is a waste of time.

TM clubs are excellent!

I've had my rocketbladez tours over a year, still look good, compared them to the recent releases (as all golfers do) and even if I was given a straight no money swap I would keep the Rbladez tours

Tried the Pings, they were my choice before hitting them - no comparison with accuracy, feel or ease of hitting with the Speedblades - and that's not something I thought I'd say.

BTW - meant to mention that althought the Callaway X-Hot flew OK it felt dead at impact, half a dozen shots with it and it was out of the equation.

Spot on

Unfortunately TM have been given a bad name by people on social media.

I Do NOT have a Problem with Taylormade
Ive NO issues with how often they release new clubs/models.......or How Many at a Time
Ive even got NO issues with Jacked up lofts or Loft up or Distance claims, their Marketing is Very Good, Possibly the BEST in the Golf game, and its Successful

I currently have a TM driver , TM Rescue (old) , and a TM wedge , aswell as various TM Putters

I just think the latest irons, SpeedBlade, look a bit 'cheap'

There......Thats cleared that up

P.S. Buy Pings Phil.............:D

Whatever any of us buy is a matter for each individual. The whole point of getting fitted is that a club that suits one person will not necessarily suit another. For some people feel matters, for others not. For some distance matters, for others not. For some looks matter, for others not. Go with what fits and what suits.

I can see where you are coming from with the cheap look - looking at them on the shelf the bit that jumped out was the bright blue end to the grip and the badge on the back has the same blue.

But... at address they looked much better than the others - head seemed smaller and muted gun metal grey face - and more importantly they felt better and went roughly where I was aiming them

Last month is the first time for years I haven't had at least one Ping club in my bag

After today it's very possible :D

They have had the speedblades at the indoor centre near work for the last couple of weeks, found them easy the hit, but for me they look terrible behind the ball compared to my current irons!

There's no need to compromise length and accuracy, my new Callaway Hot x2's certainly go miles further than my AP2's but lose nothing in accuracy compared. The 85g shaft, for me, is just a lovely engine for the club, it's about sorting out the best shaft/head combination. They get the ball up quickly, I can draw or fade them better than before, hit high and low if needed, all it have to do is get used to the distance they go!

I can hit the ball a good distance already.

The Speed Blades help me hit the ball further and with alot better accuracy.

I think they look and feel fantasic, so much so that I hope to have a set in the bag within the next fortnight.
