I was watching an item being sold on ebay purely out of interest because I have one myself. Wedgwood frog service tureen. As it happens I have three more in the loft in A1 nick bought as an investment. Anyway this piece sold for £313 plus p&o.

the second highest bidder was willing to pay £300. Is there anyway of being able to contact this person. I have been on the bid history but cannot find a link to be able to contact them direct. Failing that I mat have to have a go at selling my first item on ebay.

Ha ha what you are trying to do is exactly why Ebay do not let you contact bidders on other auctions. if you want to use Ebay's considerable marketing ability and goto status you will have to pay the Listing fees and 10% sale fees like everyone else. Otherwise you are stuck with Gumtree, Loot and Preloved!

I'd also be extremely suspicious if I lost an auction and then out of no where some random contacted me saying they had a similar item they were willing to sell...

Contacted original seller hopefully he can help.

Cant see why you'd be suspicious if someone contacted you with something you wanted. I have heard of countless stories on here of people being sold dodgy equipment both standard genuine stuff and fake and yet mines cosher. What I am trying to do is get it to a collector of these pieces ( at a cost obviously ) and if it has to go through ebay I have no problem with that.

i use ebay but have only ever bought and not sold stuff.

Just list it as quickly as possible - if someone has been hunting for something and is willing to spend, get them whilst they're keen.

And if you want a quick sale for the £300 mark, list it as a buy it now (swallowing the fee's) and see what happens - no doubt you'd be messaged with "will you accept xxx" but like Zammo did, just say no. No big deal if it doesn't sell for what you wanted unless you're in a rush.

you can now list 20 items free at any starting price so best way I would suggest is start a new listing using the on ethat you watched as a template (sell similar) and start yours at £300, then if you get multiple bidders you can use the 2nd chance option.

And how do you think people selling fakes would make use of the system lol, open invitation for them!

So why don't you want to list your item legitimately on Ebay?

At least with Ebay you get protection. I bought a phone recently and it wasnt as described, the seller tried to claim I had damaged it and wouldnt refund. Ebay found in my favour and I got a full refund.

Mark I have never listed anything on ebay before so have not got a clue how to do it. I had a natter with me lad last night and he has sold loads of things on there so hopefully tomorrow he will guide me through the process.
