As I am playing there in the EWGA Medal regional final in May, I went down today to get a feel for the course. I couldn't have picked a better day to play it.

I set off behind 3 fourballs, which I soon caught up but as I wanted to get a feel for the course I was in no rush and declined when the last of the groups asked my if I wanted to play through. The course is set in gentle rolling countryside and the first nine is fairly benign with not a lot of trouble. There are a few small ponds but they do not really come into play unless you are wayward with your shots and there aren't too many bunkers either. the fairways are mostly generous so on most holes positional play isn't really necessary either. Probably the fairway bunkers are the main things to be avoided.

The home nine is more varied and some thought is needed on several of the holes, particularly the 347yard (288 off the reds) par 4 12th. This is arguably the best hole of the course, the hole is a dogleg with a downhill drive. then the second shot is to the right to an elevated green across a stream. even so a straight tee shot is only a lofted club to the green. There are several streams that cross the fairways on this nine.

While the course was well presented and I enjoyed playing it, I don't think the lower handicappers would find it too much of a challenge.
