Ive been thinking about some early punts on a few players, thus far I'm considering;
Ernie Els
Tommy Bjorn
Padraig Harrington
Steve Stricker

Any thoughts guys?

I have a sneeking suspicion Luke Donald will play well at the Open.

Either him or Dustin Johnson.

I was suprised to see Donald quite away down in the fairways in reg stats on the Euro tour, Muirfields punishing rough this year will obviously suit somebody who keeps it on the short stuff consistantly.

So hard to say really, most of the big names will go AWOl as they usually do just leaving 2 or 3 to fight it out down the stretch along with a few lesser surprise names. At the moment, as a longshot punt I'd be tempted to go for Shane Lowry, turned into a decent player especially on a links course.

If Rose hadn't won the US i'd be putting my money on him again

at the moment i like Jason Day, been up there in the last two majors...

and Henrik Stenson seems to be playing well

Agree. I was surprised to see him as low as 79th

However.

Bjorn is only 54th, Els is down in 128th!!!

Also consider recent major winners Justin Rose (95th) Kaymer (155th) and then we have Sergio Garcia (86th) and Colsaerts at (153rd)

If keeping it on the short stuff is the priority, I'd bet tempted with one of the Molinaris' who sit 8th and 10th respectively.

Els should be in contention,he's in good form & he's obviously got the bottle.
Kaymer looks decent value @ 50s. & Snedeker @ 40s.

I have a £5 ew on Westwood 25/1 not that I think he will win but good for top 4 and £5 ew on Jason Day bout the same odds I think

I don't rate Rory's chances - though if he does very well this week, that could change.

Els always seems to be up there!

Donald could be stretched - and is nor in good form.

Manassero?
