I have been suffering with a blocked Right ear for months now. The Left one is fine. It comes and goes and is sometimes painful but usually not, but reduces hearing and feels uncomfortable. I have a smaller than normal Eustachian tube which is what I understand will be blocked? I have not had any colds or viruses which have brought this on so suspect it must be an allergy? Any products to get or try or other tings to look at. Any help/advice much appreciated

It may sound like a stock response but go see you GP (go see your pro). They would need to identify the cause but from what you describe it sounds like it could be "glue ear". I suffered with it as a child and required surgery but nowadays this is a last resort treatment. Not so common with adults.

Also where is the pain. If the pain runs down the ear and neck then it's probably related to the tube. If it is more localized to the ear then it could be excess ear wax or inflammation. The ear is a complex system and you don't want to mess with it to much without some first hand professional advise.

Cheers. I have ben to the GP and TBH got fobbed off really. I had grommets as a kid but that was it. I know all about Glue Ear, but I have had no trouble for as long as I can remember until last December when it started up again. I will not mess with it myself. Just after some other advice than what the GP gave me. I may go back and see someone else.

There is bound to be a doctor lurking round here somewhere that may be able to give you some further advise.

Unfortunately we now live in a world with an NHS that you often need to fight against to get what you need. I'd push for something to help ease the symptoms now, if there is inflammation then a steroid spray may help a little. Also request a referral to ENT. Could have been triggered by an infection picked up during the cold weather. I get a similar thing in my right ear at times but usually eases itself after a few weeks. The duration of your symptoms are more concerning.

Cheers. As I say it comes and goes. It started again yesterday morning and has been present ever since. Come Friday it will have probably have gone again Then in a couple of weeks it will be back again. This is how it has been since Dec

I had similar and the doc couldn't fathom it out. Kept coming and going over the months. Turned out to be an abcess in my wisdom tooth.

Now that is interesting. I had my Wisdom teeth out a few years ago as they were causing me pain. Did it give you the blocked ear feeling? and how did you finally get it diagnosed?

My Doc has told me its the pollen this summer. Anti histemines to cut down the sensitivity and Olbis oil on a hankerchief to try and clear the tubes...

No I do not use cotton buds never have. Do not think it is a wax problem as it comes and goes. Think I will book an appointment with the Dentist first to see if it is an abcess then go to the GP. Any more help is appreciated

I Had a badly blocked right ear and the docs syringed it for me. I had to use warm olive oil for 2 weeks first though to soften it up. It felt great after though but everything was so loud. I remember the day after I went to the range and people hitting there drivers actually hurt my head, it was like being on a battlefield with bombs going off everywhere. It felt normal after 2 days or so.

Get them syringed 100% it feels great

Will get it checked out. I am seeing the Dentist this Thursday to check to see if there is an abcess, if not I will see my GP. As I said earlier I suspect it is not a wax problem as it comes and goes. Glad you got it sorted anyway

This is what my doc said to me, he also said they only syringe as a last resort these days.

Im about to ring up to get my right ear done.
The Practice Nurse deals with minor stuff like that.
You have to use ear drops for several days beforehand and then ask to see Nursey.
Appointments are comparatively short notice compared to seeing the Doc.

i had a blocked ear due to wax and the docs would do nothing. i bought a home ear syringe hit from boots and got mrs rooter to sort it. I almost did my sex face when it cleared! the feeling was amazing!

Also, dont bother with ear candles, they are a con. i suggest a few days of eye drops (yes eye drops! my kids have both had private medical treatment for glue ear (when i had BUPA), and our consultant advised they are basically the same, but eye drops are easier to get, cheaper and often better) then get the home syringe kit.

PS. if its deffo not wax, go to the docs. friend of mine lost his sense of smell out of nowhere, turned out he had a brain tumor.. #justsayin (and he is fine now!)

The sensation I had was like blocked sinus but only on the one side. Blocked nose and ear plus eye trouble especially when I awoke if I had been sleeping on that side. My upper back tooth was also sensitive when touched. Lasted for a couple of days then went away but kept coming back. More annoying than sore. I happened to mention it to my dentist during a check-up and he diagnosed it.

Virtually identical to me. I am seeing the dentist on Thursday as I booked an earlier appointment this morning. Do not get the eye trouble though
