Played here yesterday in amazing conditions, and I have to say the greens were the best I have ever played on. Having played c.50 of the top 100 in england thats a big statement.

They were Running at c.11 on the stimp and were flawless and its only April! I am led to believe they have had them over 14 in summers past.

The course itself is pretty nice, but isnt going to Wow anyone, however, i would recommend a trip to play it purely to experience the kind of greens the tour pros play on every single week.

The question is how well did you read and putt on them then?

Very well actually, first time i had to bring my hand a lot closer to my face. I am reading greens better everytime i play now, i actually enjoy having 15ft putts as i think of nothing except the stroke rather than the line.

but this post isnt for ANOTHER one of those discussions :)

No and neither do I but I'm glad that it worked well for you, and proof is in the pudding as they say.

Best greens I've ever played on were Nairn last year.

Not too fast, just a nice speed but the truest greens I've ever had the pleasure of putting on, so smooth it was unreal.

Even I could hole 4/5 footers with confidence on them!!

I played at Hankley today and whilst I love the course I have to say that the greens really are not up to standard. They are very firm with really patchy growth causing them to be quick but bumpy which is the worst possible combination. I'm sure they will get them sorted out pretty quickly but conditions down here in the south have been so good for the last few weeks that all the courses should have good greens by now.

I played Ealing last year, the greens were excellent (not as good as ours, but excellent none the less) but agree about the course.

I played at Oxford City (or Southfield if you prefer) a month ago and the Greens were absolutely outstanding for the time of year. Fast, smooth and true - ironically though the fairways were very poor - patchy with bare mud showing through the skimpy grass, although they lookred as if they'd been heavily scarified a few days previously, but without Winter rules they would've been D minus and almost unplayable.

Interesting. We have them in a club match at their place soon.

I'd say they'll have the fairways sorted more by then, as whatever treatment they'd had when we played plus the growing season now having kicked in, should seen them in much better nick.

If they haven't done anything to the greens then you should really enjoy them.

From what i've heard from others, a lot of courses are struggling with the lack of rain, meaning there is little growth.

few members have told me Haylings havent been great last few weeks?

Not wishing to speak for Hankley but they may have similar greens to ours - we have two different grasses that grow different speeds especially noticeable early season when there hasn't been much growth - particularly as we've found this year - cold and dry and very slow to get growing

I haven't played for a week and a half but a week last Sunday our greens were as good as I have seen them at this time of the year - smooth and quick. I popped in on Saturday to say hello as a big comp was on and was told they had been 11.5 all week - what a time to be out of golf!!!!!

Yeah that pretty much sums them up, you could clearly see the different grass types. I'm surprised they haven't addressed the problem.
