So he was handed an 11 week ban for swearing at referee Wayne Barnes during the Premier League final.

Rugby gets it right again in my opinion. No matter that Barnes isn't a great ref, you cannot speak to any ref that way. I agree with the ban and the consequences he has to face because of his actions. Missing a Lions tour (especially one where the Lions should win) has to be gutting though and he should never make this mistake again.

Football needs to sort itself out and learn from Rugby.

Certainly surprised that Hartley was picked in the first place as not as good as Best and can be a liability on the pitch. He got what he deserved and rugby showed itself to be strong. Suspect that his England career may be over now as well.

H'mm,

Not sure that Rugby has got it entirely right.

11 weeks for the 'crime' of calling the ref a 'cheat'

3 games - reduced to 2 on appeal - for deliberate (possibly career threatening) stomp on opponent's ankle in Test!

Yes, I know there was previous (and lack of previous), but I still believe penalties for those 2 offences should be pretty much reversed.

Did the FA not give shearer or someone a short ban so they wouldn't miss a major tourney? When they should have missed it?

Yes, I believe it was because Neil Lennon's head got in the way of Shearer's boot.
It was rumoured he threatened to never play for England again if they banned him - just what I remember.
Could be hearsay.
He didn't miss Lennon though

Thought there was something in background. Need to check YouTube for that one?

Just found it...that deserved jail

I think in most things rugby does get it right, and football definitely needs to learn from the oval ball game about respecting the referee and the decisions they make (although they are helped by having a fourth official and tv replays, which is something football needs IMO). As for Hartley he's a bit of a liability and I think deservedly lost his Lions spot.

I am a Northampton fan but no fan of Hartley. He has shown time and time again he has a short fuse and has not learned his lessons from his previous bans. I was very surprised he was picked for the Lions in the first place as apart from being a consistent thrower at line outs he does not offer anything else that a handful of others cannot provide. I would go so far as to say at scrum time he is also a liability as he always pops up like a meercat which other hookers do not even when playing with the same props. I hope his England career is over too, we have plenty more just as capable players coming through the system. Hopefully this will cure Stuart Lancaster of his man crush on Hartley.
