Went out and bought a new summer weight duvet today.
Which got me thinking.
Whatever happened to the good old British nylon sheets and woollen blankets?
Never mind the Bill Bryson 'Counterplane'.

Haha brilliant! I'm currently working my way through a load of Bryson books again including 'Notes from a small island' :D

About 5 years ago we stayed one night in a Tarbet [Kintyre] B&B on route to Islay.
They had the full works.
Nylon sheets/woolen blankets/counterpane.
I also had to climb over my wife to get to 'my' side of the bed.
Breakfast was good mind.

Ah say, I started a blog a good few months ago about new proper duvets. The one wi proper feathers in. But I do miss me sheets and thick blanket. Me ma gave me the thick blanket that we brought with us when we emigrated from Rochdale to Mansfield. It's now the " sick/poorly " blanket. It's a couple of generations old

I really struggled with his Appalachian Trail book but recently saw the film where Bryson was played by Robert Redford.
I thought Redford was astonishingly 'wooden' in his acting until I realised that he was playing Bryson 'as he was' it was very funny and much better than the book IMVHO

The most pointless bit of bedding is the purple strip that Premier Inns put at the foot of the bed over the duvet. We have battles with the housekeeping as we keep putting it on top of the wardrobe but they always replace it 😡

We have been on Summer Duvets all year round for the last 8 years or so. Milder winters and the fact our master bedroom is above the kitchen with a Aga blasting away 24 hours a day.

We have the splittable 13 tog down type, a 9 tog and 4 tog joined for winter, split for just a 9 in summer. Doesn't get warm enough for just a 4. Works fine.
Dont miss blankets one jot, I get restless leg and move about cos many joints hurt so being pinned down by blankets gives me the same fear you get with sleep paralysis when you cant move.

When you use a Winter Duvet, do you get to adjust its position within six inches for a better lie?

I know, I'll get my coat.
