Been watching DJ quite a bit and he has such and unusual wrist in his backswing- it's bowed over like he's about to throttle a motorcycle- has it always been like this naturally or did he learn to play like this?

What are the benefit? Obviously he bombs it but a lot of that's down to his sheer size.

Could it benefit us amateurs and in what way?

Hogan used to bow his through impact to rid himself of the hooks, I suspect DJ does it for the same reason

Yes he has had it for a long time, I think it is natural for him to do it now.

Apparently, it's to bring his elbows closer together throughout his entire swing.

Which generates more accuracy / straighter tee-shots. Closer the elbows, straighter the shots!

It's not a text book swing but it obviously works for him. I tend to do it as well at the top of the back swing which leads to me de-lofting the club and hooks, so I would not overly recommend it for amateurs. He makes it work as he has the timing, coordination and time to practice.
