Having used a little 17degree 2iron equivalent for the last year, I thought I'd take the one iron on the range to practice some low shots......it didn't happen.
I think I hit 30 balls with it and hit 3 decent. I pondered whether technology was making me a poorer golfer. Next step, my persimmon driver.

I can see the old Lee Travino joke here....

Whay don't you put it in your bag for playing in a Thunderstorm, krokodil. Just hold it in the air when the lightning starts....even God can't hit a one iron!! :) :) :)

Auchterlonies in Stilrling have a few ONES in a bag and I am always drawn to them but when I look at one in the address position I brick it and shove it back in the bag..... Respect to anyone who could hit one.

I wanted something for playing in the wind that kept things low. I had my MX20 3 iron bent to 17.5* and it's an absolute banker off the tee. Being 3 iron length helps too. Wouldn't dream of trying it from the fairway though. ;)

Madandra, old mate of mine who played EK and had a ping 1 iron (this is going back about 17yrs) tried it once and fell in love with it. Never had the bottle to go for a blade so have used a cavity for a lot of years...until recently that I can't hit it at all.

If the grass is spongy give it a bash, you won't look back!

I recently got rid of a Wilson Staff 2 iron. Pure blade and frightening to look down on. Tiny head and no margin for error. I use to use it a lot at Royal Ascot when we were in the middle of the racecourse but couldn't find the sweetspot at all when I used it a few months back

Not tried a 1 iron. Do have something called a DI which is 18 degrees but its really a type of hybrid more akin to a very thick looking iron.

I know from using a 3 iron that I tend to get the best from it off the tee or fairway when later in the season I've had plenty of practice with my irons & my technique is aproaching what it should be. Would assume a 1 or 2 would be similarly hard to hit this early in the season but easier as we become better practiced.

Maybe I will. :) I do hit it great up the range from the mats, but my only concern with hitting it from grass is the effect bending a 3 iron 2.5* has on the bounce.
