I'm lucky enough to be going to a conference in June this year to Ras Al Khaimah In the UAE. The conference includes a round of golf at AL Hamra Golf Club so I'll have my clubs with me. I'm flying into Dubai for the weekend prior to the conference....so where should I play?? Might as well take the opportunity while I can.

Dubai in June? Lucky? Mmm. It may be a bit on the warm side then. You'll bd lucky if it drops below 25 at night and could hit 40 on the day. January is a better month to go.

The golf there is generally pretty good if rather expensive. And like much of Dubai, a little soulless. As much as I like golf I am not sure I would be out in that heat though.

Lucky, well yes, full expenses paid trip to Dubai, with activities and parties thrown by the tourist boards and hotels. I'll take it thanks. Beats a week in the office anyway. I understand it will be hot.

Anyone else played in Dubai (at any time throughout the year) and can recommend their favorite of the courses on offer.

Have played on the Els and Jumeriah - both stunning but will be very hot in June

Can't beat Emirates golf club, the original course in Dubai. Less well known but a decent track is Al Badia golf club which when I used to be out there regularly was managed by a nice team of Brits! Can't go wrong with most courses in Dubai, but Emirates is the most established and likely to have a better atmosphere than the slightly further out resort or development courses.

You're very lucky pal!

Sorry I've never played in Dubai...just posting to let you know I'm extremely jealous haha!! Enjoy

Played there a few times, also with work. Played emirates, jumeriah estates, dubai creek and Els club. Loved the Faldo at emirates. Such a good view! The Earth course was the toughest, played it because off the race to dubai, not a blade of grass out of place! Creek was good, loads of water to. Contend with. And then the Els, that was probably my least favourite of the 4. Played a few in Abu Dhabi, but plenty in dubai too keep you entertained!

I'm in Dubai at present and am teeing off on the Montgomerie in 2 hours! I'll let you know!

Only look at Emirate, Els and Montgomerie. When in June? From mid-June it will be Ramadan so probably no alcohol available.

On the upside, there often good deals to be had at that time of year e.g. half price rounds etc. It will be very hot though.

Cheers everyone.

Take some pic Bratty :)

Going to be there 29th - 4th. June 18th Ramadan starts. I'm sure the organisers of the conference wouldn't of been stupid enough to arrange it for then :)

Enjoy. I love Dubai, probably the best place I've ever been. I went in July, and it was absolutely sweltering. Got up to 46 degrees on the beach, it's ridiculous. So golf could be a bit of a challenge in that heat, unless the buggies have AC in Dubai? :) Enjoy though, will definitely be playing golf in Dubai at some point in the future, would love to play the Majlis course!

Not only is the weather ridiculous at that time of year but - if you really think about it - Dubai as a whole is pretty ridiculous :)

29th June to 4th July? Smack bang in the middle of Ramadan. Dubai is not that bad but most things will be closed until sunset. There might be restrictions on what / if you can drink on the course during the day. Worst time to visit the middle east.
29th May to 4th June? You're good, just HOT.
Enjoy!

Been to Dubai a lot - stayed there for all of July and August once. It's a magical place.

It'll be far too hot to play 18 holes in June IMO.

Didn't take any pictures, I'm afraid, but the Montgomerie is a great course. Think I prefer it to Dubai Creek if I'm honest.
Some great holes, not too fiddly, fairly slow greens (which I prefer), good bunkering, a couple of holes have some interesting landscaping that ate slight optical illusions, and the chance to use driver a good bit without too much trouble.
The staff are superb and the locker room guy even grabbed my shoes to clean and polish them for me!
We stayed at the Sheraton Grand, a new hotel in Dubai, near the Trade Centre, which was fantastic. Would recommend it to anyone. Brunch on the Feast restaurant on a Friday is simply stunning, and head chef Raymond Wong is a master.
Anyone looking for a handmade shirt, trousers or suit, should go to Athba Salem Tailoring (tricky to find, but PM me for directions). Handmade shirt ready in two days for £20 (100 dhirams). Bargain!

Need to get something booked soon. Can't decide which to go for, Majlis, Earth or Montgomerie!

ps. I know it will be hot but playing anyway :)

I played Earth @ Jumierah, Arabian Ranches and Yas Links in Abu Dhabi.

Of those Earth was the toughest, but Yas was the best. Arabian Ranches was a totally different test as it is a desert course. It doesn't rank all that highly should you compare it to other on the good old world wide web, but it was my first golf aboard and was awe-struck by each of them.

I've played the Montgomery and the Creek, preferred the Monty out of the two of them. If I go back, I'll drive down to play Yas, it look fantastic

Plays just as fantastic as it looks. Rewards the good shots, but doesn't half bite when you hit a bad one. I was 26 points through 12 on there and finished with 31...
