Dual course membership and handicap

Probably a very daft question....

Currently, I'm a member of Peebles GC in the Scottish Borders, but since joining I've moved house into West Lothian, and I'm now looking at courses in the area that are closer to home, as PGC is a 50min drive and £10 of fuel each trip.

I'm a member there until March 2014, having joined on a scheme that got me 18 months for the cost of 12 months, having been living in Edinburgh south-side at the time and even with fuel considered, it was cheaper to join PGC than a course in the city.

I don't have an official handicap yet, and so I'm not sure whether to get one for Peebles now, or wait until I join a new club to get one. I'm also wondering how handicaps work for dual course membership, in terms of keeping individual clubs involved updated of the numbers, and any changes to the handicap?

So, if I got a handicap at Peebles, would have have to resubmit my 3 cards to get a handicap at the new course? Or does my handicap transfer across?

How are changes communicated? If I play a medal at the new course and get a cut, does the handicap secretary of that club inform the other?

Can I play in Peebles' club competitions using a handicap allotted from 'other' club, and vice-versa?

Any other thoughts on the matter welcome!

Members of more than 1 club nominate one of them as their 'Home' club for handicap.

They are then considered 'Away' members in comps at their other clubs.

Scores at 'away' comps need to be communicated to you Home club for recording on their system - just as would happen if you played an Open comp somewhere other than Peebles.

I know that if both clubs are use Club2000/on HDID, then the comms side is 'automatic'. Don't know/out of date with mixed systems. It's your responsibility to inform your home club of any away comp results though.

Handicap, once obtained, travels with you. I'd advise you to make your home club the one that you will play most of your comps at. That way it's the lest amount of hassle for everyone.

Lots of good courses in your area, try Greenburn gc in Fauldhouse very friendly , short course but usually in good nick, and reasonable prices.

I'm looking at something close by so I can pop along after work for a few holes. From where I live, Greenburn is a bit out of the way, as is Harburn, although I do like Greenburn and I have a mate who is a member there.

Not a fan of Bathgate GC or Uphall GC, and so Pumpherston is currently leading the way, just trying to convince myself to pay the joining fee. Deer Park is also under consideration, but its a bit pricey and the course turns into a swamp at the first sign of rain.
