Lots of withdrawals from the competition today due to injury. One female player allegedly exclaimed "this court is dangerous".

I bet the tournament organisers are hoping it doesn't start to detract from the championships and also start questions about the safety of grass in this health and safety gone mad world we live in!

Edit: Sharapova complained about the court but then she was losing (and lost)!

Nothing to do with the Courts. They're always slippy in the first couple of days. Been that way for as long as I can remember.

So everything to do with the courts then!

There was a time when some players actually used spikes on grass!

They do look rather green, which I agree changes throughout the fortnight.

The (soft and grippy) Rebound Ace surface (where bouncing the racquet after a bad shot became the thing to do) first used at The Australian Open was deemed to have caused/exacerbated more than its fair share of ankle and knee injuries.

I think it's the high seeds, at least in Ladies, having problems that highlights the issue. That may actually mean that the lowe level players are actually getting closer to the top guns. It ued to be that the first 3 rounds in Lades were a bit of a formality - with the lower ranked players only getting 2 or 3 total games. Not now!

they have just intervied a woman competitor and she said the courts were slippy because they hadn't swept up the grass clippings like they normally do and getting traction was difficult.

What's the betting the ones who slip over more are wearing their sponsoring manufacturers latest footwear with it's cool latest technology soles (see also Australia v Lions and Kurtley Beale)

Agreed. It must be the white shorts effect but the Gentlemen's behinds look rather delightful :p

The couple of times I went with my wife (as opposed to sharing 2 days with a mate who got tickets), we agreed that Tennis is the best sport for 'leg-watching' - by either of us!

AMANDA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! shame on you :D

watching Federer game at min , close but not great tennis

Fed in the flesh is...also delightful!

I concur!

this is an offensive sexist post and I am disgusted!!!!!! but explains the wifes sudden interest in the stupid game.

Tennis,up there with Cricket as the most mind numbing sport to watch.

My husband agrees and the only time I get to watch tennis is if he's out or it's Wimbledon! Even the sexy, toned legs and backsides don't seem to persuade him...

Bye bye Roger. Murray/Djokovic to dominate the mens game for the next 5 years
Don't rule him out yet!

That's why he's a 7 time champion!

But he's definitely in need of some inspiration.

Edit: He's just had some! Game on!

Apologies for the spoilers!
