Debating whether to drop the 3 wood. Hardly use one, cannot hit it consistently and generally more trouble than it's worth. Had better joy when lofted to 16 deg so may just use a 4/5 wood or a 17 degree hybrid? Never had issues with hybrids and the shorter shaft often give me more control. My next club up is a 4 iron at 21 deg loft. What are people's thoughts?

I've dropped them. Have done for a while now. Just the driver then a driving iron. Looking at getting a hybrid of some sort but not too sure that I get on with them. I tried the 3 wood again at the end of last year but I just couldn't get on with it and decided to get rid. Yeah I might have less options but I'd rather that than have options that I'm not too sure about and hitting duff shots.

i suppose it depends on if you need them on your course or not. for me i couldn't do without my 3 wood. have to use it a off the tee on holes the driver is too much and for 2nd shots into the wind longer holes. i probably hit it better off the deck than off a tee. wasn't always good with one, but persevered and as i got better so did use of this

You have to be mentally happy with what's in your bag

Last night I actually took the 5w out and put the 3w back simply because its 'easier to hit' (both Cobra's, same length)

That's nuts right! I mean how could the 3 possibly be easier than the 5

Its just that mentally it is easier and surprise surprise that's exactly what happens on the course

Drop it by all means but keep it in the cupboard for when it comes back to you

I have had this dilemma for quite a while. I had a 3 wood and just couldnt hit it so replaced it with hybrids
I was carrying all hybrids, 2,3,4 but found myself not really using the 3, so I dropped it and picked up a cheap 14 degree 3 wood as a number of our holes are tight doglegs and don't require a driver off the tee so this gave me options.

I think the 3 wood gives me a good 15 yards over the 2 hybrid but now i find myself not really finding a use for it. Trying to find a balance in that end of the bag is proving quite tricky but I feel like it should just be the consistency I need rather than distance.

I like having the 3 wood off the tee but just need to find which hybrids to carry

Not for me but it's all personal choice. I like the variations my 3 & 5 woods give and certainly in summer there are several holes where driver could run out and be in trouble. Also use them on tighter courses

I don't carry one. I am pretty straight with my driver and my Ping crossover goes a good distance and is versatile. Also carry a proper 3 iron.

I rarely used my g25 4w. Occasionally I'd hit it into par 5's as a second shot.

Just acquired Ping G 3w and 5w. Used the 5w on the range tonight for the first time.....it's like cheating. I'm not a fan of heavy shafts in fairways and the blue ping one seems to work for me. I find it quite easy to get them airborne. I'll either switch out my 3i or 56 degree wedge for the extra wood.

Woods and hybrids are brilliant.

Love my 5 wood. About to swap out my 15 degree 3 wood for a 17 degree 4 wood. Just fancy a bit more loft for shots from the fairway.

These two clubs teamed with a 4 and 5 hybrid has my long game sorted.

Just my driver and then 3iron. I gave up on woods last year as I know I can move the irons well and keep it in play. The woods gave me distance but at the expense of accuracy.
