I was in Stromness 2 years ago, didn't notice the golf course, is it out west of the town?
Course looks wide open, guessing you can hit it just about anywhere off the tee and still have a look at the green? Wind must be a killer, drives going either 80 yards or 400 yards I expect!

The course is out at the South End of the town. You're right, it is fairly open but the rough is quite thick and the ball sits right down in it so its tough to get out of. The greenkeeper has it like this as its the main defence the course has. You're also right about the wind.
