After having a few lessons now and changing my swing and grip I am now hitting irons really well. Consistent direction and distance. But on Sunday I couldn't hit my driver at all, I hit one fairway on the first 9 holes and after that resorted to using my 5i to tee off. I was having a look online and saw a tip where you mark the ball with a whiteboard marker and point the dot at your club face. Then after you hit the ball it leaves a mark on the driver face showing where impact was. I did this at the range today and most of my shots are coming off high on the face of the driver. I didnt think I had the tee high enough to even manage this. Anyway I dropped the tee a little and shots where much better. I was just wondering if anyone could explain how I manage to hit the ball about an inch and a half above the centre? I have my ball set so about half the ball is above the top of the driver head on the tee. I set up with my driver about 3 inches from the ball so I am ideally hitting the ball as the driver start to rise on my swing through.

Thanks Danny

my take around a bunch of things to consider would come from the "I am now hitting my irons really well"
meaning all the good work you will have done will be around setting up to deliver a pretty reasonable attack that's a little ways down - so the the better contact with irons through being able to present the upper body more 'over' (covering) the ball
the face contact being high on the driver face most likely because the attack angle with the driver is still more echoing this downwards attack possibly coming in a little ways steep

so would look to set-up ball position with driver - ball opposite the lead heel (lead armpit) area & teed to someways around the top of the leading edge of the driver at around the lower quarter to equator of the ball

key though is not then to move the upper body, head & arms upto the forwards ball position by pointing the chest(sternum) to face the ball - this has the shoulders then in an open position and upper body head too near to the ball but also importantly has the spine angle most likely tilted to target instead of spine tilt aways from target so as of this then negating the forwards ball position and leads to many issues in the swing motion leading to the difficulty of contact driver issues and then shot outcomes

so most likely a big part of the driver contact issue is around set-up before any motion has started - at next lesson just ask the Pro to go over driver set-up positions, both ball but importantly body position and posture and spine tilt
