I changed from my Nike SUMO to the Wilson Spine, but I have struggling with the spine. The shaft is 1" longer and face is a touch shallower, but I just cant get the sweet spot.

I want to go and try a few drivers but I dont want to try every driver in the pro shop. I am new to the club and only had one lesson with the Pro, so she does not know me too well. I will ask her but I would like a few recomendations first.

I love the Taylormade stuff at the moment - but never liked the feel of my mates R7 driver. However the Taylormade Burner takes my eye (check out my sig) The Titelist D1 looks pretty good but what is it like for a high handycapper.

Lets make this clear - I want your thoughts on drivers for me to try, I do intend to try some before I buy.

Can you also please recomend ones you have hit.

Ping G10, Ping G5 (I hit this like a demon), Cobra L4V, Callaway Fti, Hippo Hex

These are just a handful of drivers that fit your brief.

Best thing is to go and get on a launch monitor if you can to ensure you get the right shaft and try a few.

As for the burner, I have the TP model and it isn't the most forgiving of clubs but I understand the standard burner is better, particularly in a draw bias.

Have you thought about the Slazenger K1 speed?

Not being serious but a guy I played with a couple of weeks ago was actually using this club. He sprayed it short and all over the place. Obviouslt lives up to its advert then.

Good luck with whatever you choose, for your needs though I think that the G5/G10 would be perfect and teh fact that they don't break the bank is also a help. My G5 was £140 brand new!

I have the titleist 907 D1, which for me is fantastic. However, I am not sure that I would recommend it to a higher handicap player. it is also among the most expensive, so a mistake here will cost you dear. It also benefits hugely from custom fit (here we go again, but this particular driver is very difficult to get right off the shelf, I should know, I have had two shafts in it already).

Thanks - I had seen a second hand one for £170 thought I would ask about it.

I have a TM 10.5 Stiff R7 Superquad which is superb. I am driving over 300yds straight on most holes now, bargain at £170 brand new from a local dealer in North East.

I would recommend going for some of the cheaper models. MDEQL is a superb driver with great components and certainly one I would consider. Have also seen some great reviews of the Ben Sayers 'Benny' which I would love to have a go with. Also agree that the Hi-Bore is a bargain as you can pick up last year's model for £150.00.

Pretty much sums up my attitude to golf gear now, going to buy lower cost kit and last year's models until I am good enough to justify a big outlay.

These may be great but they are not really made for hackers like me. I dont think I would get the use out of it. A little more infor on your ability may help.

Just a thought about your current driver. I have a Wilson df6 3 wood. I to feel that i can't get the sweetspot, however i think its down to V2 shaft as it does fly further than my old mizuno.

The feel is crap but the results are fine. You may want to avoid the V2 if you get another driver

Ken, the Titleist is top drawer but does really benefit from custom fit.

I would very highly reccomend the Ping G5/G10,in 11deg.

Not much to choose between them they are really close.

Which ever model you decide to go for may I recommend that you do not go for a loft any lower that 11 degrees. It will reduce spin which exagerates slices and the higher the loft the longer the ball will carry for you.

I am enjoying my G5 over my FT-3, but don't be fooled, this club is also an inch oversize. I think we might develop a good relationship once I can persuade myself to step back a tad......

Do I love it?

Could be, but the length will take some taming.

Go for a 460 BB or try the new "Benny" from Ben Sayers. Ask about the length....please beware.

BEN SAYERS 'BENNY'
I am a 24 handicap and improving all the time, I have been looking for a new driver, tried most of them but was drawn to the 'Benny' as it had fantastic revues, at £99 this is an amazing club, and got some trade in on my old driver!
This club really is forgiving and obtains distance, sounds great too!
