Hello everyone,

Looking for some advice. I've always just gone to American Golf and got a standard, off the shelf driver with whatever stiff shaft is in it. I'm working to try and play to single figures this season, so want to get a proper fitted driver and shaft. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations of the best place to go and get fit for a driver in the North West area. I live between Manchester and Chester, so anywhere between/ around these would be great.

Thanks

Carl

Tour-X golf is an alladins cave of fancy shafts and the club builder there is very good. He used to be in Warrington, but has now moved to Wigan. www.tourxgolf.co.uk

I've seen a couple of things dotted around about this place, but the website give no information at all unfortunately. Do you know how much they usually charge per session and if their club prices are normally fairly similar to the usual golf stores?

I think you pay £50 for the fitting session. The clubs are the same price in standard spec, but in reality you will end up paying more as you will have an upgraded shaft etc. The guy there, Nick Hibbs, is really knowledgeable and they have all the latest trackman gear...... He used to be the club builder on tour for Adams.

I know him well - he used to work at Duxbury GC, Chorley. He played with me in our invitation one year, which was interesting - he hit some drives to places I'd never seen drives go before! :D

Haha, yeah he can spray it with the best of them. He has an unbelievable shortgame though. I believe he was scratch, now knocks it round off 2 or 3

As far as I remember he was scratch or better when he was younger, and yes he has an amazing short game. I think he was playing off 1 or 2 at Hindley (?) when he played at our Invitation.

Thanks a lot! Will give this a watch!

Has anyone been to Clubhouse Golf Direct in Manchester for any sort of fitting? They offer money back from the fitting against the price of a club which would be good.

Yes, Clubhouse is a really good shop. An Aladdin's cave of all the latest brands and equipment. Their fitting is good and they have all the different brands and fitting carts to try.

The difference between Tour-x and Clubhouse is that Clubhouse will have all the fitting carts and all the shaft options for those specific brands, but, they wont have all the exotic shaft options Tour-x has. In reality, you would find a decent driver in both, Cluhouse would be less expensive and will only have stock shafts, but Tour-x would be custom built and as its more that likely you will walk away with a non-stock shaft, the driver would be bespoke for you.

Let us know how you get on !

Been looking at Tour X for a while, am definitely changing my irons over the Winter.
Has anyone on here had a fitting with Nick?

Mate of mine had a Driver shaft fitting at the start of the summer. Absolutely raves about the place. Didn't over charge either, gave him a really good deal.

Careful though, it's hard to find if you don't know exactly where it is. Last time I went up there were no exterior signs at all. Might've changed now though.

It Hasn't mate, I went a few weeks ago. After driving round in circles for 5 mins looking at the units, I finally pulled over took a chance and marched into one. Luckily it was the right unit.
