Here is something for the more technically minded of you out there. Would I get much of an advantage if I put in one of the aftermarket shafts in my Nike driver. I have a standard shaft and the question is would it be effective to fit a Proforce or Aldila in there.

It all depends on how much you get on with a particular shaft. If there is one you know that suits you than yes it will be worth doing but really you would be better getting a full fitting for a new driver so you can try a range of shafts on a launch monitor. If not how will you know the benefits?

Having seen you use it to good effect it is a probability that you may get a bit more out of it if you changed to a higher spec shaft. Is it really necessary ? You did not to bad at Craigielaw from what I saw.

I've changed the odd steel shaft from time to time. As for graphite, I think it would only make sense if you were kitted out across the board with all the same and a pro C_F recommended it. Otherwise, it's an expensive idea and the results aren't exactly guaranteed i.m.h.o.
I DO know that after market graphites are a rip-off. You can buy a club for under £50 with a recognised brand, but pay nearly twice as much for the shaft alone, then again I haven't enquired recently, maybe these days graphite shafts are more reasonable???

Anyone know.....maybe you know and have a cost in mind??

Yeah it would be effective changing shaft however no way of knowing if it will be better until its done.

What is wrong with your current set up?

Its quite expensive though i think most Aldilas cost around £100 and the Usts a little cheaper

I had a shaft change on my 905r which from the benefit of the pro worked out good,if you do go for a change get the shaft pured if possible to get the best out of it

I would do it if anything you could always have your original shaft put back it,you never know it could tranform your driving

What is it your wanting the new shaft to do?

Are you looking for a lower trajectory or are you looking to increase distance, do you feal that the current shaft is poop???

Bottom line is its all down to what you want from the shaft and flight. If its just to change for the sake of change then I wouldnt bother. Incidently if its the Diamana shaft in your Nike I would change it as I think they are crap but thats only my opinion.

Diamana do make highly rated shafts though, so may be it just didn't suit you, or may be it was made for the OEM market, and is poo, who knows?

Yeh Craw Its the Diamana. I'm only feeling the water wondering if one of the aftermarket jobbies would give me that little more out of the club.

I've been led to believe that it's more cost effective to have a new club made up with your chosen custom shaft rather than retrofit one.

Of course that goes out the window if you can't get the shaft you want offered with your existing club head from the local custom fit centre.

Also you mention that fitting costs aren't a problem which suggest you have someone that will do it for you cheap or free.

I think a visit to one of the big manufacturer's home fitting centres might offer the best range of shaft options and you could always check they have the type of shafts you're interested in first.

Diamana do make good shafts, however having owned a Nike Sasquatch fairway wood I would have to say that the shaft felt dead, I didnt get on with it at all and having tried a friends driver my opinion of Nikes shaft choice did not change. In fact it confirmed to me that the shaft does not work in that club.

No doubt millions of other people will tell me that I'm talking verbal whoopsie, thats just my opinion.

The Diamana shafts that come with Nike drivers and woods are substantially different from the ones that are sold as aftermarket components. How would you otherwise explain that a Diamana Blue board costs 300$ alone and the driver with the same shaft goes for 200$ ?
I've gone through the trouble of changing the shaft on my previous driver, but I had first carefully selected the characteristics I was looking for (weight, flex - or, better, frequency -, kick point, torque). The shaft I chose was an HTD, and the assembled driver worked a charme - until someone stole it.
