can anyone give me some advice whether a 14deg driver is better or worse than a 14deg hybrid? would the driver go further even tho they have the same loft? would the hybrid be more accurate and have more uses? thanks

Driver i recon because its got the bigger face ! If you strike your irons well and your used to a smaller hitting surface then maybe a hybrid.
I suspect a hybrid will have a shorter shaft which is easier to control!
give them both a try!

It's not about what's better or worse, just what you feel comfortable with.

At a guess, driver would be larger bodied and longer shafted and be better suited to tee shots only (depending on your h'cap). Hybrid would be smaller bodied, have a smaller face, and could be used from the fairway and tee, (ability dependant).

Being a higher h'capper I struggle with a 17 deg rescue from the fairway, which is why I got a 20 deg as well now. As for a driver, I did go for a higher loft club to assist in cutting down the slices that I really suffered from a year ago. If budget is your main concern, and depending what you have in your bag already I would probably go for a 3 wood if you don't already have a driver.

Don't know if this helps, as I'm sure that someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

I have also had a few hybrid problems recently but they were purely pscholigical. Getting over them now.

Never seen a 14 degree hybrid but cannot imagine that it would be easy to hit. Certainly would take a high loft driver as a preference off the tee every time.

i'm hitting my hybrid pretty well at the minuite it's the driver i'm struggling with, had to resort to using the 3 wood on off a couple of tee's i normally don't yesterday.a session at the range to iron my problems out i think.

The psychological thing for me is that the hybrid looks like a wood and at first , i was trying to use it like one , especially off the tee ( i reaaly struggled with any kind of wood club ) . Now that my teeing off with driver/3 wood has greatly improved , i have switched to using the hybrid for fairway work and since visualizing the hybrid as an iron , that has also improved dramatically .

The driver will give you more distance as the shaft is longer and generates more speed and the head bigger, but can be more difficult to control (the dreaded slice!!).

The hybrid will give less distance but more consistency off the tee.

I have an 11 degree driver and 14 degree 3 wood, you may want to consider a strong 3 wood (13/14 rather than 15/16 degree) if you are having trouble with the driver - its what i use most from the tee as you get better distance than hybrids and more accuracy then a driver.
