It seems I may well have sorted out a decent set of irons for the Missus, but my thoughts are now turning to woods, as she only has a couple of hybrids in her set.
I've got both a Ben Sayers "Benny" and a Cleveland Launcher DST driver sitting redundant in the shed. Both in very good condition and with a decent enough amount of loft on them (11 degrees). Both regular flex graphite.
Would just having say an inch or so cut off the shaft be good enough to make these playable for her? I'm thinking more of the Cleveland if I'm honest, because it is a very light club, (much lighter than my i15 which is why I'm not using it), and I'm thinking if it were an inch or so shorter it would be a perfect driver for her without shelling out too much money.
If she were an inch or two taller I'd most probably leave it as is, but she's a bit on the short side at about 5'5"
Thoughts????

Could taking an inch off stiffen the shaft a touch? I think the DST shafts are soft in the tip anyway so it might work. Either that or check eBay - plenty of £30-50 Ladies drivers on there. Get the DST on and use the cash from that to get her something more "Lady-like"..!

I read the title of the thread and thought " thats not a bad deal" - is it still on and who's offering it?

The oppurtunity for smut and inuendo in this thread is mind boggling, what with people mentioning shafts, wood, stiff, but we won't go there, this forum is way way to adult to degenerate into that kind of gutter humour.

As for the missus's club, do you really need to go chopping an inch of your shaft, I'm if she has a good tight grip, the extra inch surely won't make that much difference.

Bob thats absolutely perfect, it comes with a dishwasher as per pictures 3 & 4.

My 5' 4" partner plays with gents Callaway Big Bertha Hawkeye woods, including a 10* driver all with regular shafts. She also has gents Titleist DTR irons and regularly puts me to shame. Before you start butchering clubs let her play with them for a while to see how she gets on.

Smiffy I'm only 5'6" tall. I was fitted for a driver once and told standard lengh was right for me. What I'm trying to say is leave it as it is. Should be ok, and you will not mess up resale value, if you want to sell it.

Get down to AG (never thought I'd type that sentence) They have some decent womens clubs for around £15-20. Granted not top pf the range but would be a ladies flex and would probably suit her better and have a smaller grip that would fit her hands better

Well what a load of crap. Gave Sam my Cleveland Launcher DST Driver to use for her lesson today. It's really light, like a wand compared to my i15.
The pro said......."You can't use that for your lesson, the shaft will be too heavy and it won't do your swing any good".
What a load of cobblers.

And it would appear I have created a monster.
She has just booked up an additional 6 one hour lessons.
She has also just mown the lawn (in a nice, stripey pattern), brought some practice balls and has installed a driving range down the bottom of the garden.
She was also moaning that all the sports shops in Eastbourne have the golf stuff hidden up at the back of the showroom.

Just think, you'll be able to pass on your years of experience and vast knowledge of the golf swing and help her maximise her potential by giving her tips and advice on her swing........:D

Christmas and birthdays will be easy from now on. :)

And when is she joining the forum?
