i recently got fitted for a new driver went for the taylormade m2 with a x stiff shaft while hitting it at the fitting centre it was looking amazing average about 280 and reasonably straight so ordered it up a week later it arrived so went for a bounce game to try it out, and its dead! no distance at alone of the shots i usually play on my courses 15th is aim straight over the bunkers to make a long par 5 short bunkers are only 220 yards away and i managed to plug straight into them, that was the story of the whole day, could the shaft be costing me? i used to play with a stiff normal shaft that come with my r15 now I'm using an adilia rogue 60g and actually hate everything about the driver

was the simulator set for Colorado with 40 MPH tailwind?

Are you possibly trying to knock it out of the park?

Swing easy and within yourself that usually yields better results.

Was you finding that bunker before your fitting?

x stiff shaft and 27 handicap don't typically go together so maybe you need a second opinion on that just to be sure.

not trying to skull it at all just a normal swing and would easy get over that bunker before, the x stiff is cause I'm 6ft 8 and have an athletic swing 112-115 if i want to i can swing over 120

Was this with an independent fitter or a TM fitting?

I know a few guys here who have exactly the same problem....it was a TM fitting! Huge drives on the trackman but out on the course....not good.

was an independent fitter but the best i think aberdeen has to offer!

Launch monitors are selling tools as much as if not more so than they are fitting tools, if you did not see the ball travel 280 yards then you are putting a lot of trust in a video game that can be made to say pretty much anything

Of that is your swing speed then you are not finding the middle of the club. Its that simple.

Go to the range and monitor your strike using impact tape. Bound to be all over the face.

It's a shame when people jump on the launch monitor bad bandwagon.
There are unscrupulous sales people who use them (but probably less than many might think from such threads).
How they are set up is more about the relationship between the customer and advisor than anything to do with miss leading data - I've watched individuals want really low ball flights and long total distances claiming to play fast dry fairways, so it all gets dialled in, they get the fitting they order with the numbers to support it, and wonder why their performance in the real world doesn't match (this isn't aimed at the OP at all).

The other good (and bad) thing about such fittings is that with no balls to loose, no medal card to trash, no bunkers to carry and the wonderful instant feedback it doesn't take long to be making our best swings, best contacts and the most effective combinations for the club in hand...then, having established what the club can do we head of to the course to establish what we can do with it (at which point only the best golfers are going to see any real similarity between what was and what is).

To the OP, just go back to the fitting centre and get them to check out what's happening; speculation is really dangerous. They have a responsibility to check out your performance with the actual club against the data they originally produced. As to the club feeling dead - unless you hit the middle of the club with your working swing speed I am not surprised at that spec.

The bandwagon only exists as lots and lots of massive gains shown on launch monitors evaporate once the sale is made

It's all fine and dandy using a LM but it should only ever be used for comparison purposes. Try your original driver side by side with the M2 and see what the difference is. It might be going 290 average!

Who's the fitter? I always liked kings links as you could hit it outside against your own driver, same with Paul Laurie's place, but that was a few years back

Then solution is to revert back to your old driver and see what you get. If you still come up short then your swing has obviously changed and you need to sort that out. Or if you find that normal business has resumed then test the new driver again and if it goes back to shorter distance then ditch it.

Simple process of elimination to decide whether its you or the new club, if the latter take it back and ask for a refitting, credit or refund. In my experience the damage has already been done with that new driver now that you have lost confidence in it.

I recently tried several drivers out on a launch monitor at a branch of American Golf, including my then current driver, and according to that I was hitting the ball about the same pathetic distances as I manage on the course, i.e. just over 200 yards! :(
