Ok guys so here's the dilemma I'm currently using reg shafts as I have done since I started playing about 10 months ago however I feel like my club head speed has defo increased since I got fitted for my irons, after now hitting fairways with my 3 wood I've decided its time to purchase a driver and see what I can do with it. After browsing online I've won a rbz stage 2 driver in stiff flex for £80 the dilemma I've got here is that my irons are reg and I haven't been fitted for a driver which I know everyone will tell me to do, however I'm thinking for £80 surely it's worth just trying it out and then if it's not for me putting it on fleabay and surely I won't lose much? I guess my main question is how much difference will a stiff flex make if I should be playing reg shafts. And also what would you do in this situation
Cheers guys

Why not go to a local store and "test" something in stiff flex?

Id pop down to AG and have a go with a couple of reg and a couple of stiff and see which one gets the best results for you.

Many on here will testify that driver heads are much of a muchness, the real difference is the shaft and these will be different for every individual. Your game is obviously developing, so what works well now, may not in a few months,

Yes if you are picking up clubs for a good price, you can always sell them on if it doesnt click and many get a lot of enjoyment from trying out different clubs.

dont be afraid to experiment, but equally dont be afraid to go see a pro for the odd lesson or 2

I play reg shafts in my irons and 3 hybrid, but stiff in my 3 wood and driver. Not fitted for woods or hybrid, just what I feel most comfortable with and best results

Not one to be pessimistic, but why bid on a club that your not sure is suitable?

If you've won it just try it when you get it, a stiffer shaft may help you with dispersion but you may lose a small amount of distance. I play regular irons but need a stiff shaft in woods and hybrids due to my transition, each to their own

I tend to agree. Why by something you haven't tried. It's why I never buy online and have to have had a hit with it before I part with my cash but that's just me. Give the new bat a bash and if you don't get on with it punt it onwards. You may lose a few quid, you may not.

I have PX 5.0 shafts in my irons and stiff Diamana Kai'li shafts in my hybrids & woods. TBH I wouldn't worry what it says on the shaft, if it works, it works.

Try the stiff driver if it's not to your liking you don't need to sell the club just swap out the shaft for a reg you can get reg cheaper and easier than stiff so dont think you won't lose out.

I was the same for 25 years....

just give it a go and take it from there. thinking about it is the worst (least constructive) approach!

I recently had a fitting, 6iron swing speed was 80mph so reg shaft, driver was 100mph and stiff shaft. Btw the driver I tried was the rbz and I thought it was great.

It's a hard one to call. I know a few people that play stiff shaft driver and fairway but regular for the rest of the bag.

My club head speed was bang on the border line between a stiff or a regular at between 90 and 95. I knew I was trying to smash the ball during my fitting so decided to go the regular option.

Get it and see how it feels. Do you know anyone that has an adjustable TM driver with a regular shaft? From what I know all of the different TM drivers back to the R9 has the same fitting shaft adaptor, it is just the newer models have more settings if I am correct. So see if you can borrow a shaft and do some comparing.

I'd take that a stage further; some manufacturer's stiff shafts will be softer than another manufacturer's regular shafts, it is only their designation. Not sure if it is still the case but Callaway's designations used to be stiffer than the shaft played to get round ego issues. Not only that, but different manufacturers bracket different speeds into different flexes. 96 mph with Aldila is a solid regular, as per this fitting chart, http://www.aldila.com/custom-fitting/guide/ yet go to a Graphite Design and it is a solid stiff regular, maybe a stiff, http://www.proschoicegolfshafts.com/technology/fit-guide or a solid stiff in this Mitsubishi shaft http://www.mitsubishirayongolf.com/product.php?cmd=fubuki_k&lang=en Sorry, which flex did you say you were? And clubhead speed is only half the story, how do you get that speed, steady acceleration from the top or with a late release? You really need to get out and try some clubs and possibly go and have a pro look at you and advise you.

If you have bought it then surely the best thing is to try it and see how you get on, i regularly use 2 stiff shafted clubs when my others are regular, genuinely I rarely notice the difference.
