Hi folks

Had the opportunity to look at the distances for all the clubs in my bag tonight.

Was pretty happy with irons-nice 10ish yard gaps all the way up the bag but was a little disappointed with 250yards average for the driver.

Now I know 250 is not terrible or anything like that but I was catching it well and thought it might push up to 280ish.

I am using a 10.5* Titleist 910 D2 with a stock Stiff shaft. Ball flight is quite high but I tend to get a high flight with irons too. Could this be loosing me distance? Would a lower loft be worth a look? Or a specific shaft that launches lower?

Thanks for any advice or opinion offered.

250 and straight beats 280 and in the rough. If you are hitting it straight with most clubs on a regular basis I wouldn't be too stressed. Have a chat with your pro but to me I don't think it will be the loft and more likely to be the shaft that maybe isn't quite right

Sorry should have said distances were 180 for 6 iron and 210 for 3 iron....
Distances were total including carry and roll. Driver seemed to have particularly little roll out.

Oh dear only 250 that's a 7 iron on here!

No seriously without checking your swing path speeds etc on a launch monitor you could spend a lot of time trying lots of different things to know effect. 250 regular in middle of fairway would do me! :)

measured real life or ....?

180 carry for a 6i suggests you should be carrying your driver beyond the total distance you indicate

Driver does seem a little short compared to irons - but still reasonably satisfactory if on the fairway. I'm getting just short of 250 with Driver but only 150 with 6 iron.

Launch Monitor will show the reason in numbers. Pro should be able to tell from the flight on a Range.

And some would have you believe an 8 or 9 on one of their good days.

If you're hitting it straight and keeping it on the short stuff 250 is going to keep your scores down, well, as long as you can pitch and putt of course.

However, if you are hell bent on trying a new driver, Kraxx on here changed from his Titleist 910 D2 to the new Callaway X-Hot and the ball really flies of the club face. Could be he's getting better could be the club, my money is on the club making him look good.

I can get away with the mickey take as he's rarely on here, unless he just lurks.:mmm:

Khamelion-thanks. I have seen some posts/reviews of the XHot, RBZ etc and wondered how much distance an average Joe could add to their drive distance!

davidg2010uk-thanks for that, really interesting actually! Had no idea that Louis OOSTHUIZEN hit it so far although I am an infrequent TV viewer and only really see results etc rather than players 'live'.

I think for my mate (Kraxx), he's added, no, not think, I have seen that he has added probably 25+yds to his drives, the 2nd at Whickham is 340yds and he's got the front edge of the green, granted it is down hill, but its still a long way.

Thanks for all the feedback. Went to the range today and tried a few clubs off the second hand rack. TM R11s stiff driver and 3 wood, callaway x hot stiff shaft 3 wood, 910fairway wood with stiff shaft.
The 910f was the best of the bunch-putting it out almost as far as my current 910 driver. The shaft although stiff flex is different to my driver though(green vs blue- don't have exact names to hand!) which might have helped.
I got good distances from time to time with the R11 driver but less consistent than either titleist club.
Callaway x hot wasn't for me-shaft felt much softer than the others and I wasn't very consistent with it.
So will aim to try the callaway x hot driver, maybe with x stiff shaft and possibly look at other shafts for current driver.
