Dress Code_ It's In The Jeans

Blooming heck that escalated quickly. And to think I worry about what colour socks to put on when I go to the club. Imagine the abuse I'd get. If they were wearing denim then maybe a polite word stating the dress code that every body follows but no need to go into an abusive rampage on the poor lady. No wonder it turned to fisticuffs.

It does appear to illustrate the fact that the dress code isn't the problem, it's the over-zealous nature of those who decide to enforce it..

At an old club of mine I was reprimanded by an ex-lady Captain because I had the sheer brazen cheek to hang my jacket on the back of my chair.. Not the done thing she explained as loudly as she possibly could in a room full of sycophants.. Laughing loudly at her was Social Suicide apparently..:D

The Daily Mail has picked it up too, this could get ugly!

Phew, they have included a close up picture of a pair of jeans for me to understand the story a bit better! :D

At my club, Blankney, which is hardly what one would describe as 'shabby' you can wear jeans in the clubhouse.......... or practice ground or course if you like - your call. Don't really get this fixation with 'no jeans' myself. It's a type of cloth, what difference does it make?

Excluded from the crochet circle and the whist drive then Dan?

They know how to twist the knife.....

over zealous and unfair official kicks off storm in tea cup.

kind of thing that happens daily I would think (the conversation not the aggressiveness of it) across Golf clubs of that ilk

The bit that gets me is that it is an invitation club only, but you have to pay a $45,000 initiation fee, what would that be? Standing bent over bare arsed while the club captain hits dozen balls at you hoping for a hole in one?

I turned up at a local course a few years back to play with a mate in the summer. Was wearing proper golf shorts (Nike I think) brand new FJ Classics and a nice shirt, however I was committing the dreadful sin of wearing short white socks!!!

I got accosted on the way to the first tee by a past Captain who was insistent that I couldnt play without long socks and I must leave the tee immediately.

I apologised to my friend for embarrassing him and went as instructed to the Pro Shop in order to purchase said socks to cover my offensive calves................................................whereupon the Pro told me they didnt sell them, never had and only stocked the actual socks I was wearing!!!

I have never visited a club with the long sock rule but I have heard about them. I have only been playing about 7-8 years but I have never seen anyone wearing long socks with shorts, how ridiculous would you look? One of my playing partners occasionally wears black sports socks with shorts and I really don't like the look of that but that is a personal thing.

You didn't mention, did you go back out wearing your white socks once it was confirmed the pro didn't sell the long ones?

I've witnessed the exact same altercation at the same Club I wrote about in an earlier post.. Paying customers turned away from the first tee as their socks were the wrong colour.. Laughable really...

Yes I did, the Pro told me to ignore him and said he would have a word with the secretary.

My mate turned up as an unnamed club that is currently losing members hand over fist in white socks that has been washed with the darks, and were therefore actually a bit light grey in places.

So they made him go and buy some 'proper' white socks in the pro shop. And we did genuinely see some old boy dressed up in the full tartan long socks and shorts, looking like a complete berk, coming out of the pro shop as my mate went in. We didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

Northampton County Course you still are required to wear knee length sock with shorts

Same thing happened to a PP at John O gaunt, we got stopped on the 12th fairway and he was ordered to leave the course and get different socks!
