Has anybody got one of these?

I need to sand and varnish windows in the house. Some parts of the frame are fiddly and intricate so I am looking into one of these.

After doing some reading they do a fair few models - 4000, 4200, 8200

4000 seems to be the most popular and long standing model, the 4200 has this be EZ change feature and the 8000 series are cordless. I'm not fussed about cordless as I will be in the house near mains all of the time.

The EZ change sounds good but read some negative reviews and the 4200 doesn't appear in many shops so it makes me think they can't be any good.

The main requirement is to have a good selection of abrasive attachements for light sanding but with long life - don't want to be changing bits with fiddly screws every 5 minutes.

It doesn't have to be a dremel if there is something else like it out there.

With the whole house to do one thing for sure is that I need a power tool of some sort.

I use a dremel quite a lot, but I'm not sure it's really suited for what you want to do. It's hard to get any sort of attachment into the corners. They are a bit small, and for what you want it's a bit like taking a dentists drill to sand a plank. It could take ages.

I'd still use a heat gun and a scraper.

Or nitro mors.

Thanks Murph.

I am sanding the windows with a block and some sanding sponges.

It's only the parts of the frame where glass meets wood that I need it for. A lip of about 15mm all sides of the glass. A big job to do by hand. Varnish is almost non existent it's the access to the wood that is the difficult bit.

Was just about to say the B&D mouse, good for small corners etc. I don't think you will get the finish you want/need with a dremel. It's still a must have tool! Mine gets used all the time (all be it a black and decker equivalent)
