We've a few changes on the horizon at our club regarding management of tee times as we are attached to a municipal with a new operator likely to start this summer. Traditionally we just play with our regular fourballs in the Saturday comps but we are looking for ideas to manage the comps better and drawn comps have been mentioned.

Very interested to see how clubs manage the draws when they have drawn comps. Can players request a tee time within a certain time band? How far in advance are the draws done? What happens when people drop out? Is it done via computer?

Anyone particularly for or against this system? Any experiences of swapping from one to the other and the reaction of members?

Personally I feel it encourages a better social element and less cliques in a club but I've a feeling many of our memebers would strongly resist. We have about 180 playing each week.

The draws for our weekend competitions are done on a Wednesday night for a Saturday competition and a Thursday night for one on a Sunday. The entry sheets go up a couple of weeks before and when the draw is done it is put on the club's website that night and also posted on the notice board. As for players requesting a tee time this is not a problem as we have no where near as many playing as you. The only time you cant request a tee time is when the draw is done by handicap. Our mid week competitons are a shotgun start and have 2 draw times, the first at 6pm and the second at 6.20pm. Players turn up and sign in and then names are drawn at random.

I totally agree that this makes for a better club atmosphere as everyone is finished at the same time and you are playing with different people each time. This works for us as we have relatively small numbers turning out.

We have two different types of comps, all require you to be at the clubhouse on a Thursday night, and you put your card ina draw box.

Proper drawn comps: your name is drawn out, and you enter your name (and only you) in a time slot of hour intervals. once everyone has picked a slot, the committe will make the full draw and post the tee times the next day.

Lesser comps: When your name is drawn, you enter your name in a specific tee time, and can add a second player if you wish.

Works very well, ensures a boost to bar takings on a quiet night, and also ensures a good mix of the mmebership, and helps break cliques.

We have drawn competitions. You enter and pay via the pro shop and it closes the Wednesday prior to the event. Names are then drawn (either by the secretary or pro) against each time. You can't ask for a time except for exceptional circumstances. I was first off one week at 8.00 and then off at 9.40 the following week.

Our drawn comps close 8 days before the event and the draw is up 7 days before.
You can request an 'ish' tee time and they will try to accommodate you.

I forgot for this Saturdays medal and got given 6:42am

Entry sheets go up up to a month before. You can play saturday or sunday and early, late etc but not specific times. The draw goes up about 10 days in advance. We have to do it like this as it is a public course. We are allocated a number of tee times and any that we don't use we have to give back or we are charged so we need to know how many tee times we are going to use, it does work well though.

Our entry sheets go up about 3 weeks in advance, you can also enter on line should you want to. You can specify a early, middle or late tee off time.

They are drawn on the Sunday/Monday before the event and are put up on the notice board and you can view on line.

Late enteries can come down on the day and wait for any late withdrawals or if available can tag on at the end, so long that the starter knows.

Our entry sheets go up on the notice board approx 6 weeks in advance. The sheet in taken down approx two weeks before the event and the draw sheet is posted at least 1 week before. The entry sheet is in blocks of 1.5 hours with ladies and juniors also taking part and usually have between 110 and 130 taking part.. This works very well for us as we are a very social club.
