Watching re-runs of the former Dr Who reminded me that the beeb is to axe the lovely Karen after the next series. This they believe will retrieve their fallen ratings. Do they not recognise that the current incumbent is the worst since Sylvester McCoy?
What say a female Dr? and if so who, and how would they play the character?

Catherine Tate - witty but sarcastic

I quite like the new Dr.

No-one will EVER beat Tom Baker who epitomized Dr Who IMO:thup:

With regards a female Dr Who...........interesting thought, I know who I'd like but this lady is getting some attention

I'm not remotely sexist, but I think a female doctor would be just wrong. Think Matt Smith is ok and I love Karen Gillan, but I reckon the extremely complex plot in the last series has just been too hard for the younger viewers to follow.

Catherine Tate was awful ( imo )

I'd say get rid of Matt Smith and keep Karen Gillen :p

And I don't care if it's sexist, but Dr. Who is a man.

Or more correctly, Gallafreyan.

Which means that HBC would be acceptable in my book. :p:p

Matt Smith was always going to struggle following Tennant - who was excellent in the role.
The plots are week in this post Russell Davies era and they're trying to get round it by complicating things - and as has been said, the kids just don't get it.

HBC would be great as DW
Lets start a campaign

Of course there was Elizabeth Sladen who played Sarah Jane, arguably the best assistant there ever was.

Her spin off series the Sarah Jane Adventures was excellent and won a bafta, the character played very similarly to Dr Who but without the Tardis.
Elisabeth Sladen sadly passed away last April, RIP Elisabeth.

SJA was better than the current DW in so many ways - often scarier! The Boy watches both and prefers SJA.
Although he did prefer Ecclestone/Tennant era DW to Smith.

I reckon Ed Milliband is your man as the Doctor - I dont understand a word/plot/ story line ever, and I have been around since the very first episode. They talk nonsense, run round in circles, and have a panicked solution to every problem - yep Ed Milliband perfick!

Sorry, but I don't think a woman could play Doctor Who, in the same way that a man should never play Miss Marple or Jessica Fletcher..
I think Matt Smith is pretty good, but has been let down by overly complicated storylines that stretch throughout the season. Losing Karen might help as although she is cracking eye candy, the character is a bit weak, and Rory is bloody annoying..
Lets give Smith another season with better storylines and see how he goes on eh.... And no more talk of a female Doctor Who.. It won't work..

I have been pleasantly surprised by Matt Smith, he had a hell of a tough act to follow, and on the whole hes done ok. Karen is just gorgeous and I would gladly watch any series she was in. The whole series with River, going backwards or forwards in time, in opposite directions to every one else and then being the daughter confused the hell out of me. Dr Who cant be a girl, but HBC is a bit special, so I would let her be a special side kick. The next Dr should be Samuel L Jackson, as Jules in Pulp Fiction. He would scare the hell out of any space monster.

I personally reckon Matt Smith is the best of the "new" doctor's. He's done incredibly well. These last two series have been the best of the new batch IMO.

I understand that Matt Smith had an incredibly hard act to follow but I don't think he's up to it. Funny how the BBC have yet to repeat even the first series he was in on BBC3 with anything approaching the regularity they still show the Tennant/Ecclestone era. I think Karen Gillan has done a decent job but that her part as a proper assistant was limited once Rory was introduced.

The storylines in the latest series have just been way too complicated for a lot of kids to follow and even the older viewer has to really concentrate to follow the plots. It could be in danger of running out of steam unless the plots are livened up and made easier, Smith is replaced and a decent assistant found to replace Amy Pond. As a suggestion, we know the Dr (David Tennant) had a daughter in one of the episodes (she escapred and flew off into the galaxy) so why not bring her into it.
